Data © OzTAM Pty Limited 2021. The Data may not be reproduced, published or communicated (electronically or in hard copy) in whole or in part, without the prior written consent of OzTAM. “Overnight” figures include “Live” (programs broadcast during the 2am-2am broadcast day) and “As Live” (programs recorded and then watched within the same broadcast day). “Consolidated” figures include Live, As Live and “Time Shift” (programs recorded and then watched within seven days of the initial broadcast).

Seven took out its first win of the week with its first +30 Saturday share since the AFL Grand Final. Nine was also over 30% though down slightly on the last 8 weeks of results.

Seven’ success was helped by a better afternoon lead in for news from Bathurst giving its best Saturday news result in 6 weeks. Later Ford V Ferrari was the most popular movies ahead of Nine’s Gladiator. The Bathurst Top 10 Shootout made 6th place and the top 5 in key demos.

Nine also did well with News and ACA while ABC’s line up slipped on recent results. 10 had its highest Saturday share in 5 week but as per results earlier in the week thanks to better multichannel performances. SBS was also up slightly.

Low result for Weekend Today though up against Bathurst in some markets for part of the broadcast.

The audience for Bathurst 1000 top 10 shootout continued to drop. Last year it got 419,000 when 10 had the rights.

For anyone who thinks round ball football is big in this country, oh so wrong!

That’s why networks haven’t gone near it. Yes when it a the national team, but any sport is huge for networks when it’s a national team playing.

High participation doesn’t mean high viewership or following of league, that has never taken off.

These numbers for 10 are before the BBL, ASHES and tennis. Come March when NRL and AFL start, where will 10’s shares be. :grimacing:

Was it on Foxtel as well though?

Yes it was on Foxtel - see topic:

Yup. Channel 10 now the lowest rating primary channel on Saturday nights

The talk of bbl type uplift was always nonsense but I’m sure they bought the idea that there was this latent support for the aleague if it were only promoted properly.

Truth is soccer is nowhere near as popular in this country as some are convinced and the bulk of the serious soccer fans are focussed on Europe.

This is going to get really ugly for ten.

I know I’ve said this a few times, but 10 need to do everything they can to stem the loss of viewers between 6-7pm in Syd/Mel and to a slightly lesser extent in Adelaide before the football starts. That is the only way they’ll be giving A-Leauge the best possible chance to get the most viewers they can.

News is more often than not the highest rating program every Saturday week in & out, it just makes sense to extend the bulletin to be 90 mins week round. Project story highlights from the week that was for 30 mins after that would be the absolutely cheapest programming they could consistently put in that weekend timeslot, get one of them to pre-record a new intro etc.

In Queensland, they could either put the extra news on Bold at 6pm in Qld, or shift the football pre coverage to Bold and then start the game on the main channel once the news ends. Wouldn’t effect the schedule in Perth since A-Leauge airs on Bold.

It won’t be a quick fix, but the consistency and a marginally larger lead-in can only be a better thing.

I don’t think even 10 thought the A league would rate. It’s just the 3 hour advertorial on a Saturday for P+ subscriptions. Football doesn’t have natural slots for ads so there really not much of an opportunity to sell heaps of inventory. Yes the ratings are diabolical but I think that was always going to be the case.

Agree with you all. Ten’s ratings for the A-League has been below average. Although I wasn’t expecting huge numbers, i was at least hoping for low 100-200k a week as the “blockbuster match”, instead of getting numbers of high double-figure numbers.

At least it’s getting numbers a little higher than what it was getting on the ABC in recent years, when they aired the 5pm games. Not a huge increase and the greatest comparison, but its something.

10 certainly need to fix the 6-7pm slots. Whether its: 90 minutes News / The Project Sports Edition or celebrities interviews of the week / generic sports show like Before the Game or Sports Tonight), but would be better than airing Jamie Oliver and endless Bondi Rescue repeats

Numbers in double figures are truly horrible. They do not at all compare favorably with the ABC from last year when you consider:

  1. those games were also on foxtel cable. They may have only getting 20K but that’s a fair chunk of people who now would either have to watch it on the FTA channel if they aren’t streaming it.
  2. it has moved from a big multi sports streaming service to on its lonesome (sports-wise) on a start up streaming service
  3. the tv deal involved a massive front ended contra which has played out with apparently massive advertising and promotion across 10 programming
  4. it played the sydney derby up front and bigger matches more generally than the wellington versus Mariner games that were the staple of last years abc matches
  5. it’s prime time versus late arvo
  6. it is 3 rounds in and next week the Ashes and BBL start

I suspect they were hoping for mid to high 100s to start off with. What they’ve got is a disaster and the terrible crowds validate the complete fizzer this big reset with channel ten has been. I’d be shocked if this is still on the main channel when ratings season starts again

Weekend Sunrise aired until at least 9am in all markets yesterday. So that ‘main’ listing is a fair comparison.

Saturdays are a dead zone anyway as nothing on 10 will rate. As others have said, no matter how low the ratings are, it is basically written off as a 3 hour infomercial for Paramount+.

Yeah , I am sure it isn’t, though.

Given that crowds have also collapsed logic says that Paramount+ would be getting pretty woeful subscriber numbers

And it’s just going to get worse
