I don’t think movies will cut it

6pm 10 News First
630 The Project
730

They need to stunt program. Something that makes some noise and stands out. Jamie, Bondi recuse and movies go by completely understand noticed

I would do something like back to back eps of Seinfield and Friends for 5 hours 730-1230 and have people vote via 10play or FB or Insta to choose the best episodes. 10 then plays 10 episodes back to back and counts them down

They do that anyway on 10Peach nearly 7 days a week. I reckon some comedy vairiety like Thank God You’re Here or some UK imports.

10s audience would not watch UK imports

And then you need to heavily and market new series

It needs to be something that doesn’t need a lot of marketing muscle

If you don’t think movies will cut it do you really thin the alternative is a blank screen as you suggest? :stuck_out_tongue:

I agree with you though movies aren’t the answer but airing repeats of friends also isn’t the answer.

They need to invest in the Project on Saturday. At least give it that boost but having more people at home.

Sully might not be the most impartial here, but movies still draw good shares and offer lots of spots for advertisers of various targets. Because of their run times and often going deep into a night.

Take just last night in isolation (let alone previous weeks, months and years) 7mate, 7flix, 9Go!, 9Gem all 3%+ shares and in fact 9Gem No. 1 with movies nearly 6% and nearly beating Ch 10!

Do you have any proof that advertisers like to invest their money in movies on FTA? Just because shares go late doesn’t mean advertisers like to have their ads run on them. And yes they do seem to work on multis, you are right. But perhaps that is the only place they work.

No doubt they can provide additional late night shares for 10. But I think 10 have tried movies on Saturdays for the last 10 years and it has never seemed to work.

So why does it work for 7 and 9?

Also ten air the wrong movies and don’t get the rights to any decent ones either.

That’s not really what I was saying

What works for one network doesn’t always work for another…

But I don’t know if I would call 320 (7) and 280k (9) working for them either. Their strong news service got them the percentages they got.

Sorry got confused you mentioned this:

So I assumed you were talking about advertisers liking movies.

Sorry, I wasn’t aware Seven News and Nine News aired on 7mate, 7flix, 9Go! and 9Gem (which is clearly what my comment referred to).

That comment was a reply to CMO. Not you.

They actually made the Top 20 and one of them Top 5 in the key demos, beating countless other programs and starting not even at the usual time of 7pm but rather 8pm and on a weekend and have been aired to death for many years.

How many 10 shows (even new ones) crash and burn at 300k or less, even 200k or less… SVU, Changing Rooms, Sun Night Taleaway, even NCIS now.

They might have made the top 20 but with more people home than last week to have less viewers on FTA isn’t an accomplishment.

I am not denying 10 have issues with their figures as well. And yes viewers crash and burn. But I can guarantee Back to the Future 2 would not rate 280k on 10. Proving movies aren’t the answer to their saturday dramas.

The weekend movies on Seven and Nine usually always make the Top 20, even Top 10.

As @cmo has consistently said (me paraphrasing:) there’s just something about 10 and weekends, especially Saturdays, people aren’t interested.

Now with no AFL and NRL, would be a good time for 10 to capitalise on these nights.

Yes, see. So a theory as to why?

That is not exactly an accomplishment though when the base is low on a Saturday. The fact is more people are home at the moment. To get around 300k is not something to be happy about or think is good. This is a time where FTA could be achieving much better figures on Saturdays. Look at the news for example on a Saturday. Doc Martin increased on last weeks figures yet with movies the others lose ground.

Well I think you answered this question just before

Hence, proving movies aren’t the answer. They need to find something people are interested in.

As the risk of sounding like @lexington, this whole “Channel Ten’s Saturday night ratings are pathetic” thing is becoming repetitive.

Good luck finding an answer to this question as new programming options become increasingly limited on Sunday-Thursday nights, let alone Friday & Saturday!

Yeah I don’t think they can make a move this year. Although, they could do The Project at 6:30. If I were 10 I would try to make their Saturdays as much like their Fridays as possible. Hopefully next year the living room can return to Friday. Without making this a mock Saturdays could simply become something like this:
6:30 The Project
7:30 Graham Norton
8:30 HYBPA, Hughsey Encores

If 10 could get about 10% on a saturday and have bold continue to get around 4-5% and Peach 2% then roughly 16% on a Saturday is a huge improvement. I think that lineup could achieve that.

Foxtel bosses would be crying, look at those ratings with no AFL and NRL
