The Matildas v Brazil on 10 drew just over 300,000 metro viewers to rank 7th for the night. As well as making the top 5 in all key demos it helped deliver 10 its second highest Saturday result of the 2021 survey up 5 points on last week.

Nine slipped by 3 points but still won the night with a +30% share. Seven lost 3 while ABC was up by 1 and SBS steady.

Nine News was number one for the second consecutive Saturday with wins along the east coast.

Grantchester was again the top entertainment option with a season-high audience of almost 500,000.
Nine’s movie Mama Mia! couldn’t repeat the success of the films from the last two weeks and was narrowly beaten by Harry Potter franchise on Seven.

Seven’s afternoon racing was even with the previous week with the Cox Plate on 245,000 while T20 cricket did well for Foxtel.

Celebrity Letter and Numbers was roughly even with last week, but at a season low.

At breakfast, Weekend Sunrise made the top 10 for the 4th consecutive week and was 40k ahead of Weekend Today.

Fox Cricket’s coverage of T20 World Cup game between Australia and South Africa did very well on pay TV, taking the top six spots.

10’s Matildas v Brazil did well for Ten, coming in at 7th place. Good seeing the “post game” segment making the top 20 too. Making It Australia that aired at various times across the country didn’t do any wonders again.

Seven’s Harry Potter and Nine’s Mamma Mia did average numbers. Weekend Sunrise has three slots in the top 20 again, with Weekend Today having two spots.

Good seeing The Dog House Australia (repeat) make the top 20 in the multi’s for 10 Peach.

10 News First should be extended to 6:30, with a football program at 6:30. Would have helped 10 achieve better numbers IMO.

Still, great to see football back in the mainstream!

I’d actually argue that The Project should be there. Look at those ACA figures. There’s clearly an audience there wanting news on a Saturday night.

I think A Current Affair, The Project, and Today Extra should be extended to 7 days. I don’t like the idea of 6-day news programs.

I would classify Today Extra to be a 5 day program. Saturdays are just the top segments throughout the week.

I hate 6 day a week programs too. It’s messy.

News, Today, Sunrise, The Project and ACA should all be 7 days.

Even 7:30 on the ABC. Not airing Friday’s is weird.

They are 7-day programs.

I actually talked to my friend who was working on the project a few years ago. There is a reason why they can’t do the 7 nights a week. And it had to do with the fact they would have to employ double the amount of people. The cost doesn’t outweigh the potential gain.

What I think 10 should do is look at a prerecorded version of the show. It wouldn’t be too difficult filming a few segments each night to air and have the news headlines read from the news room after the break.

Double the amount of people just for one extra night? That doesn’t seem right.

Can’t they just have one team Monday to Thursday and another Friday to Sunday or something?

It’s just what he said. He said they would need to look at employing a whole new team as they roster they currently had already had them booked out on other commitments. He also said it would be difficult to find producers, personalities etc to work the Saturday night shift.

I guess it doesn’t matter. Hardly anyone watches the weekday program it would probably absolutely bomb on a Saturday.

Nine have already taken the audience for ACA on Saturday’s.

I couldn’t see why they couldn’t do a repackaged Saturday show. Have some extended interviews, prerecorded some investigations and possibly just have a news reader read the headlines.

I’m assuming the reason ACA can air 7 nights a week is because it would be mostly prerecorded

True. Keep Bath on for an extra hour or so.

I have always found it odd how 10 News First is only one hour on Saturday. Extend it to 6.30.
A prerecorded version of The Project might work too (use Bath for live news updates?) with a different “feel” to the live version.

You’d have to do a full live program on Election Nights or for particularly significant breaking stories. But surely most weeks, it’d be fine to have The Saturday Project as a “best of the week” type thing with a couple of crosses to 10 News First for the latest headlines?

…and because Nine’s News & Current Affairs department likely has more resources overall than Ten’s.

I think it’s clear now that it was a mistake to extend 10 News First to 90 minutes so they’re hardly going to push to make more mistakes.

I wouldn’t say its a mistake. I believe @TV.Cynic has mentioned that (while it doesn’t rate fantastic) it rates better than anything else 10 has aired in that timeslot in recent years.
