Nine lost ground from the previous week with The Disney Sing-a-long missing the top 20. 10 recorded its highest Saturday share of the year as The Dog House and Ambulance Australia outrated their commercial competition.

The FTA premiere of WWII movie Darkest Hour (starring Gary Oldman in the Oscar-winning role of Winston Churchill) delivered a strong share to 9Gem, helping Nine to win the night in network shares.

ABC News does better than 7News Sydney. Again, like Friday, ACA drooping.
The Latest didn’t do so well.
One of the most surprising things here is the 5pm news battle between Seven and Nine. Usually, Seven takes the lead, but instead, Nine did. Nine News at 5 beat Seven News 5pm in nearly all markets (except Perth)

I reckon Seven might keep movie marathons on 7flix on weekends, when their multi-channel changes are finalised.

They clearly still rate and in fact were again the best of the week for the channel (share and raw audience in total people and key demos)

I wonder if 10 can replicate the success of this show by possibly commissioning a local version? With only 6 episodes in this season, I hope they’ve got some other factuals to roll out when this wraps up to hopefully continue the success of this show.

I know it’s been mentioned a few times (and I’ve done it a few times myself) but 10 really need to work on bridging the gap from 6-7pm on Saturdays - the decision to start The Dog House at the earlier time of 7pm has paid off but there’s a big drop off after the news and then the show has to build itself up again and they’re lucky the audience is coming back.

Extending the news by 30 mins seems to be a no brainer when budgets/staffing permits, but for the 6:30 portion they could go a couple of different ways - half hour sports panel show, The Saturday Project, new current affairs show, single new ep of Bondi Rescue etc.

There is another factual from the UK that was recently commissioned (Inside the Children’s Hospital I think) and I think that is most likely headed for Saturday nights.

Totally agree that they need to try something else other than Bondi Rescue at 6pm. Extend 5pm to 6pm and do a highlights of The Project at 6.30 for half and hour or one hour followed by these kind of feel good factuals.

In the long term if they can get any movies they that can go into the post-8.30 timeslot.

I wonder if Seven and Nine soon (let’s say these 10 show continue to outrate their rivals) might consider new program options on Saturday nights? Nine did try it last year successfully with Attenborough.

Clearly movies, especially old re-runs with no iconic status, are no longer rating. 200k-odd is what we were laughing at 10 with.

However, cost is one issue. The other (which also comes with cost) is Seven and Nine’s various Hollywood studio program supply agreements/contracts which need to either be honoured and/or not wasted.

There are 8 episodes in season 1 and channel 4 has commissioned another 18 in the second season that is currently on air in the UK.
