Afternoon AFL drew a massive 1.084 million including +500,000 in Melbourne but the earlier timeslot meant that Seven’s share was down 5 from the previous Saturday.

Seven News also topped the 1 million mark though that probably is for a news break during a break in the game in the AFL in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide based on the second coding for Seven News Late. The late coding for the bulletin after the game. Later, Seven’s movie made the top 10 at least in preliminary numbers. The rating for Melbourne for Seven News of 517,000 is a 2022 high for any bulletin. The bulletin is the number one program for the week.

Meanwhile Nine drew its biggest Saturday share for ten weeks with 563,000 for the second semi final including 349k in Sydney.

Despite three ABC dramas making the top 20, ABC recorded its lowest Saturday share of the 2022 survey while 10 was even with the previous week with a main channel share just above SBS’s.

Breakfast numbers were up with close results along the east coast. Some big numbers fo Foxtel sport as well.

Massive ratings for the AFL preliminary final with an unbelievable finish. In Perth, most of the audience who watched the match stayed around for the post-match segment before the 6pm news.

The FTA and pay TV ratings for the AFL preliminary final were up on last year when Western Bulldogs beat Port Adelaide in Adelaide.

Wow - that’s a pretty good number for the AFL.

Sneaky Seven for having two numbers for the Seven News. lol

ABC’s Vera made a surprise entry in the top 20, despite it airing at 12.30pm (finishing up at 2pm).

Seems like the oldies are still watching FTA in big numbers throughout the day. That’s why afternoon game shows are often in the top 10 shows every day.

But FTA networks don’t care about the oldies and total people in prime time. They keep trying to target younger demographics, who have mostly already abandoned them for Streaming. It’s a no win situation.

A heart stopping AFL preliminary final match between the Sydney Swans and the Collingwood Magpies have helped Seven boost its ratings share. In sydney, the AFL did reasonably good, however it was beaten by NRL match.

Nine did SHIT in Melbourne last night. AFL had 12x the viewers of the NRL. Also Nine News Melbourne had shitty ratings again because of the AFL match where Sydney beat Collingwood by 1 point starting at 4:45pm and going until 7:30pm. Seven News Melbourne had outstanding ratings with the very close match. Even the pre match had more viewers than Nine News.

AFL did very well in Sydney where the Swans played against Collingwood to get a spot with the Geelong Cats in the grand final with 200k viewers. NRL beat it of course with 350k but it is still an outstanding number. On Fox Footy it also did very well with 453k viewers.

The combined national figures for AFL was 1,537,000 with Fox Footy/Seven.

And how did Nine go in Melbourne?

It will be more than this as the Seven figures don’t include regional markets. Potentially around 2 million once regional Prime7 and Kayo are factored in.

Seven posted a media release this morning including the national FTA figures (including regional markets) for the two preliminary finals.

Seven Regional

I don’t get your continued posts around this, I mean they had a prelim final on? What the hell did you expect?

Nine runs the Tennis. Seven then does terrible. I mean it’s just how the stuff works.

It wasn’t up against the preliminary final. That had finished. 42K in channel 9’s main channel at peak time is diabolically bad surely?

It’s actually higher than some Rugby Union games have gotten in that timeslot on the main channel. Movies typically can get around 60-80k these days so it’s not too far off that.
