Matilda’s win in the World Cup Quarter Final lived up to ratings expectations and delivered Seven a massive 65.4% network share on Saturday night. The result compares to the 68.1% record OzTAM share that Nine achieved for Ash Barty’s AO win in 2022 and the 65.8% that Seven’s AFL Grand Final coverage scored in both 2021 and 2020. The table currently presents preliminary results for the original schedule coding and will obviously need significant adjustment due to the extra time played and subsequent penalty shoot out. Seven potentially will code these as separate programs. The Seven News entry in first place is closest to the penalty shootout so it looks like about 2.5 million on average were watching the game but the penalty shoot out will rate well over the 3 million mark. The Yorkshire Vet entry is post game coverage on 7Two while the Post Game entry in the rankings looks to be mainly for Perth’s viewing of the penalty shootout. Not surprisingly the other networks shares were hammered. While there might have been 300k watching Vera and 135k watching the NRL, the share of the audience was very low. 10’s share is its lowest since the AO in 2022 while ABC has had many 9% shares in recent years. SBS’s share was its lowest since last Monday. ---

WOW. 2.5m tuning in for the match, and over 3.0m tuning in at 7pm (aest) for the extra-time/penalty shootout. And a 57.9% share. Truly amazing. 610k for the pre-game hour at 4pm is awesome too. While 162k watched the highlights show that preceded that (in Sydney anyway). ---
