Drag Race Down Under

Do you think drag race fans are already signed to Stan though? I don’t think this is going to bring any new viewers to Stan.

You’re right that fans of the show will already have/will re-subscribe to Stan. However, you would think the service (as well as Nine broadly) will give the series a big promotional push in order to attract new subscribers - especially if RuPaul is involved

Shane Jenek aka Courtney Act was interviewed on The Project tonight and denied that there was any truth to the rumours he was involved in the version currently being made in New Zealand.

I subscribe to Stan when there is a RuPaul season on and then cancel my subscription in the part of the year it’s not on (as it’s pretty much the only show I watch on Stan). So Aussie season will I guess keep me on Stan for the duration of the season.

Well now that RuPaul and Michelle Visage have been announced to be on the season, we don’t really need Courtney Act. I guess the Courtney Act rumours were assuming she might take on the hosting role in place of RuPaul. Courtney has kind of distanced herself from the show since doing it so I’m not even sure that she will be featured on it.

She was quite outspoken negatively about Ru and the production (limited access to Ru herself etc) after her run on the show.

8 Episodes indicates that it’ll probably be produced similar to the UK series.

Interesting that it’s a joint Stan / TVNZ production.

Stan finally announcing their worst kept secret.

A bit of grumbling over the name on socials, I assume they went with “down under” not necessarily because it’s an Americanism, but more to include NZ considering the joint venture nature of the production.

Does Down Under usually include New Zealand? As a kiwi myself I should probably know this, but I always assumed it just referred to Australia.

Yeah, I’ve always known it to be Australia, but those in the US probably don’t know the difference!

Ru Paul has no time for Courtney Act (blocked her on Twitter after trans comments). Courtney is highly unlikely to appear on Drag Race again.

This seems to be the official shows Instagram page.

Appears many pages who tried to secure accounts in the last few years associated with the Aus series have gone crazy this morning updating the names to reflect the actual show name now that it has been announced and there are official pictures etc.

Rhys Nicholson is rumored to be one of the other Judges on the show, alongside Ru and Michelle.

Wow I had to go back to that comment made last year haha. Yeah did know that Courtney and RuPaul didn’t get along. That was actually quite evident in the season Courtney appeared. So I too am not surprised she hasn’t been asked back for an All Stars, or asked to host the show. I wouldn’t be surprised though if Stan had asked for her to be involved and it was knocked back. Personally, if Ru couldn’t host, I would rather Bianca Del Rio as the host for the ‘Down Under’ version.

Accoridng to Wikipedia it refers to both countries.
“Down Under is a colloquialism and refers to Australia and New Zealand*. It comes from the fact that these two countries are located in the Southern Hemisphere, ’ below’ many other countries on the globe.”

There are rumoured to be 3 New Zealand contestants on the season plus it’s filmed in NZ which is obviously why they’ve gone with the ‘Down Under’ title rather than call it a long winded ‘Australia and New Zealand’.

That’s the way I understood it too.

Even the Men At Work song goes: I come from a land down under.

At work?

Well that wood make sense, since they’re from Australia.

The question was whether it’s widely known if New Zealand is also considered to be “down under”. I think that’s a matter of everyone’s opinion though.

It would?

Bloody autocorrectors. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
