The Rugby League Ashes are here to stay with Kangaroos’ England tour locked in for 2029

Australia’s remarkable success and notoriety through England over the past month has led to the International Rugby League permanently locking in a Kangaroo tour every four years.

“We want to reintroduce a beloved rugby league tradition, being the Kangaroos tour and the Ashes,” said IRL chairman Troy Grant.

An Ashes tour to England was historically held every four years, starting in 1908-09, but lost its way through Super League, a lack of finances and then Covid.

This current Ashes tour is the first in 22 years with the next journey now scheduled for 2029.

Australia and England have attracted more than 130,000 fans over the three Tests with television ratings in soccer-mad England soaring to around one million viewers for each Test.

New Zealand will tour Britain in 2027 with England likely to tour Australia during 2028.

I shudder to think what AI will come up with. Some of the Grok things i have seen are about as acurate as a 2 bob watch.

Sorry wrong thread?

No he is right. The NRL is using AI to help devise the 2026 fixture. Who knows what sort of matchups will be in the early weeks?

I think it will generally be fine. It won’t be as if they just ask ChatGPT to do it and go with whatever it spits out. There would still be a human element checking and making adjustments where needed.

Optimal Planning Solutions have been doing the NRL draw for a few years - Fastbreak AI have acquired them. The draw won’t be much different to previous years.

Might be worth pressing a post’s reply button in future then? Rather than 8 posts later?

Also the Cook Islands inflict a heavy defeat on South Africa to qualify for next year’s World Cup. The Rhinos have a long way to go. Unfortunately it’s a stacked deck with the Rah Rahs having an absolute stranglehold in South Africa. But you would think there is some undiscovered talent over there

Storm CEO Justin Rodski had a phone chat with Jimmy Bartel on Wide World of Sports on 3AW this evening.

Rodski said Eli Katoa is still in an Auckland hospital but is getting better each day. Rodski hoped Katoa would be released this weekend, before returning to Melbourne, and being readmitted to hospital to be examined by the club’s doctor and specialists.

Rodski also discussed Storm’s home game against Sea Eagles in Perth next year. He said it was due to the end of the club’s contract to play a home game in Brisbane as part of Magic Round. Then WA Tourism came along and suggested that Storm to come to Perth to play a game and to promote the brand. He said that the club is keeping its mind open as to where to play the 12th home game in the future.
