I’m not sure how much music strategy has been in play TBH. The music director has typically been the workdays announcer in Cooma who is typically young and fresh working their first or second commercial gig - hence the music to suit a 20 year old music fan rather than the broad 18-40 audience it needs to serve.
There’s been a change in music strategy, so some direction has been given to change what’s being scheduled.
IRC the music director for Snow / Eagle, XL / GN Fm is Gazza Warne. He does breakfast for XL fm and voice overs for XL Fm and Snow fm, and even 2SSR.
He has been with the network for quite some time, definitely not a newbie.
According to my conversation with the receptionist at Eagle / GN fm, the changes are a result of market research done across both markets and the audience finding the music to repetitive. The audience did enjoy the older High School Hits.
My take on this is that the format was fine when GN / XL fm was on AM , but I would speculate that listeners have switched away from Snow / Eagle to GN / XL fm. or to steaming.
This has been a massive format change for Snow / Eagle fm, these stations have been CHR station since launch, all I can think is that the listeners have got older so they are adapting to the changes in demographics.
Have they got the new format right? No I don’t think so,. It takes me back to Nova’s Greatest Hit’s Workday where the playlist is Throwback heavy with the same Throwbacks getting hammered daily.
Capital radio should have just dropped some of the more boarder line alternative stuff and expanded the playlist to add more variety rather than blow up the format and bring back their version of Nova’s Greatest Hits.
Several former announcers from Snow FM have music director listed against their time at Snow FM including Sam Blacker and Beau Brescianini
What’s the format of the show? Comedy? Lifestyle? Music as well I’m guessing?
I’ve not heard the program, just spotted the image posted up onto Jamie’s Facebook page.
It’s an advertorial /sponsored content deal.
Jamie is a close friend of the seat shop owner, they’ve been hocking this around for months to metros, regional ARN, Sunshine Coast independent; no dice.
It’s been floating around for awhile as have caught it on 4ZR and Dalby 1611 during my travels about the place
Well done MixFM (and even Mix106.3 Canberra) for keeping Give Me 5 alive. It’s come a long way from the previous SCA Give Me 5 For Kids - and it’s great to see the regional tradition still going strong in some parts.
This has been discussed on both the “Random Radio” & “Radio Data System (RDS)” threads, but I thought it’s worth sharing this news in this thread too.
Today (Thursday 1st August), GSL Media flicked the switch to provide the residents of Noosa their very own SEA FM and MIX FM with localised content.
The Noosa frequencies are 102.5 for Sea FM and 103.3 for Mix FM.
And yes, they do provide separate live streams for their Noosa feeds as well.
Surely the ads are the same? Just the frequency sweepers?
The 103.3 stream on the Mix FM main site is Mix FM Light
Different ads too from what I’ve heard.
What is MixFM Light? They’re playing the same music as 103.3 MixFM Noosa on their website. Is this same on FM radio?
It’s a web-only station.
Clearly there’s a configuration error and the 103.3 stream is pointing to Light instead.
Mix FM 92.7 (and 103.3) is doing an Eighties August again
Had a quick listen to Mix… One thing I’ve noticed, they don’t seem to mention 92.7 in the station IDs anymore since 103.3 Noosa was switched on…
Now just ID’d as MIX FM.
I’ve been waking up to a different station every day this week thanks to my Alexa. I chose 2LT this morning to see what they’ve got on offer at breakfast. Whilst the music was pretty good, it appears that everything is voice tracked! I know it’s 2LT and they run off the smell of old gun grease at the Small Arms Factory, but still….
Interesting, I wonder which their mandated 3 hour live slot is then?
