Ratings: MasterChef leads Big Brother, Seven wins Tuesday

With radically different program line ups from the previous Tuesday, Seven and Nine swapped places in the overnight ratings. Seven improved more than four points to record their best Tuesday network share of 2020. Without a reality tentpole, Nine dropped five share points but still managed second place in total audience share. 10 was up just over one percentage point.

MasterChef took out the title as number one reality show, posting its highest Tuesday audience for five weeks and winning across the key demographic groups. Big Brother (coded in two segments) lost some audience from the premiere but remained above 800,000 for the duration of the show and ranked second in the younger demographic groups.

Seven won all markets and key demo groups with 10 ranking second in Melbourne.

In 25-54 demo group Seven had 29.4% ahead of 10 with 27.4%, Nine 23.3%, ABC 11.4% and SBS 8.5%.

In 16-38, Seven’s share was 30.4% with 10 on 28.9%, Nine 20.8%, ABC 11.9% and SBS 8.1%.

Nine’s Kath and Kim double episode repeats landed in fourth place as 7.30pm with episode two outside the top 20. 10’s How To Stay Married was the best performer in the post 7.30 timeslot, steady with recent results. Criminal Minds ranked 26th with 303,000 just ahead of Nine’s movie The Dish that was 27th with 287,000.

ABC continued its poor run this week with its lowest Tuesday audience since the first week of the ratings survey in February as the debut of Australia’s Ocean Odyssey wasn’t able to duplicate the success of Miriam Margolyes of the preceding three weeks.

SBS’s line up included Who Do You Think You Are? in 22nd place with 334,000. Filthy Rich and Famous that followed was 28th with 286,000, well down on the previous season that had 395,000 on debut.
