Ratings: Lleyton Hewitt’s final game serves up 929,000 viewers for Seven’s tennis coverage

Night four of this year’s Australian Open was another good night for the host broadcaster as 949,000 tuned in for the night session that saw Australian Lleyton Hewitt’s career draw to a close.

Coupled with the best late night numbers of the tournament so far (418,000) Seven took a 32.7% network share.

It was another good night for sports fans as over on Ten, The Big Bash First Semi Final also did well with 929,000 watching Session 2 and 806,000 for the first session. The results are respectively 37% and 39% up on the same final last year.

This put Ten in second place with 24.4% ahead of Nine (20.9%), ABC (15.4%) and SBS (6.6%).

Also on Seven, Seven News (852,000 and 811,000) did not do as well as previous weeks, perhaps suffering from a reduced lead in as the Day session of the tennis averaged 238,000.

Over on Ten, the Big Bash was the number one program with younger demographics with the post match game on 431,000. The Project (547,000 and 383,000) was next best for the network while earlier Ten Eyewitness News had 511,000 and Family Feud 490,000.

Nine News (976,000 and 929,000) was a clear winner in the news battle for its network with A Current Affair next best, averaging 726,000 at 7pm. It was down hill post 7.30, however, with Matt and Kim to the Rescue on 369,000, World’s Most Expensive Food on 298,000 and The Truth About Exercise with 213,000. There was better news earlier with Hot Seat improving to 511,000.

ABC News (732,000) and 7.30 (569,00) grabbed top ten places and QI (469,000) and Sherlock (424,000) were in the top twenty for ABC. Earlier, Pointless had 252,000 and Grand Designs 229,000.

The Family Law slipped to 250,000 for its second episode on SBS but picked up 100,000 more viewers in consolidated results for its premier the week before. Food Safari Fire (242,000) was next best with 242,000.

Sunrise (335,000) was well clear of Today (296,000) at breakfast.
