Ratings: 1.4 million in tune with The Voice as MasterChef launches to 1 million

TV’s latest reality war commenced last night with Nine’s The Voice the early winner, launching to 1.4 million metro viewers ahead of Ten’s MasterChef with an audience of 1,012,000.

Last year The Voice averaged 1.49 million per episode after debuting to 1.55 million in late June. Last night’s result is the softest debut to date for Nine’s singing comp that this year boasts a new judge.

Ten’s MasterChef posted a ratings come-back last year debuting to 1.2 million even posting the top non-sport program of the year with the announcement of the winner. The formula continued last night and together with The Voice both programs dominated the younger demographics.

Nine posted a network share of 28.8% while Seven slipped to its lowest Sunday audience of the survey with 26.7%. Ten had an equal best Sunday share of 18.5% with ABC on 17.8% and SBS on 8.2%, its top Sunday of the survey.

Also on Nine, Nine News was watched by 1,283,000 to be the top bulletin of the night. Later, 60 Minutes managed 722,000 and Prince The Legend, Mystery rated 401,000. The Sunday afternoon NRL also made the top twenty with 375,000.

Seven News (1,168,000) got Seven off to a good start. The first house reveal of this season of House Rules had 830,000 down from 925,000 for last season’s first reveal while Sunday Night grabbed 791,000. Later, The Blacklist averaged 374,000.

Ten’s night also included Bondi Rescue (448,000), Family Feud (406,000) and Modern Family (446,000 and 293,000) with the Formula One Championship on 201,000 in three markets plus 81,000 on One. Ten Eyewitness News earlier averaged just 280,000.

Midsomer Murders (795,000) was steady for ABC after ABC News made the top five with 852,000. Compass (304,000) and the morning’s Insiders (332,000) also made the top twenty list.

Meanwhile, on SBS, Petra: The Lost City of Stone (272,000) and Mankind from Space (203,000) were on the main channel while the A-League Grand Final on SBS2 was the top multichannel program rating 269,000.

Weekend Today (319,000) was the top breakfast show ahead of Weekend Sunrise on 298,000.
