Wasn’t sure where to put this, but today I digitised this community service announcement for the 1994 Tasmania TV changes
10 Melbourne had a report on the history of it Nunawading studios tonight and the runinion held today.
Does anyone have a link to the report?
John Foreman there with Bert’s floor manager “Belvedere”.
A post was merged into an existing topic: Regional TV History (pre-aggregation)
I only ever saw those copyright warning announcements on WA stations. Nowhere else. I bet the number of successful prosecutions for this were zero.
Interesting that CTC7 had lots of program starting times not on the hour, half hour, or even 5 minutes.
The only station that had such starting times here in Melbourne on such a regular basis was ABC2.
I wonder what they’d say if you rang up and asked permission? I wonder if schools and the like would have had to, but could have actually received a go ahead.
As an aside, I did first see the 10 TV Australia logo on an old documentary tape shown at my high school, I do wonder just how much unique archival content is sitting in libraries, or if most have just junked all the tapes by now because they are outdated.
I was looking for that one. It’s gone off YouTube as well…
IIRC schools generally had some legal clearance, given it was for educational purposes, and usually, it’d be the ABC they’d be taping.
funny you mention that. Just in the last day or so ago I stumbled on this YouTube channel which seems to be remnants of videotaped material rescued from a primary school U-matic archive, so just from a cursory glance, there seems to be lots of obscure/education/ABC content
Well I’ll be…. Didn’t know CTC did that.
I bet others did it too, but we don’t have video evidence of it.
The WA stations, don’t know if TVW did it, seem to be the most paranoid of VCRs - mainly STW and GWN.
Here is Capital 7 opener including copyright notice
What do you mean?
Tarnish Today as a serious news and entertainment service like it did with GMA under Bert Newton. It felt like a 2 hour+ of infomercials
You’re not comparing apples with apples. GMA was not the same program when it changed. GMA 2.0 was not a news program as GMA 1.0 was. Different timeslot, different host, different city, even. And even GMA 1.0 was not exactly hard hitting news or current affairs, it was fairly lightweight stuff. And GMA with Bert was also very successful, lasting for 14 years, longer than GMA 1.0 had done. Yes it had a certain focus on infomercials but that wasn’t its only selling point and infomercials were nothing new for daytime TV, which had been doing that sort of thing for years, and it turned a tidy profit to Ten for many years. It was a success story at a time when Ten didn’t have much to cheer about.
