This is NSW. We’ll find a way to fuck this up. Plus they’re setting up for the Easter Show - adde d issues abound.
The NBL could have moved their game to the next day, or swapped Game 1 and 2 so Adelaide has game 1 and Sydney has games 2 and 3, and the netball could have moved to Ken Rosewall or Quaycentre.
There were concerts and sport events on the same night earlier this year. People were freaking out that there would be chaos but it actually went smoothly.
My 1st week of my part time cleaning job went well.As it’s only 8 hours a week I can manage it okay.I will be paid $40 an hour and I’m being paid by QLD Health. Its an eating disorders clinic where I’m working .I vacuum and mop floors, wipe down the tables and office areas, clean the toilets ,meeting rooms and the staff kitchen area.I empty all the rubbish bins and take them downstairs to the big bin.I try to stick to my list of what I have to do.
Who cares? The house colours of both my primary and secondary school were all local indigenous words. In fact…my house was green and named for the local First Nations word for the sun.
The old names are Australian historic figures and I do not think that their names are relevant to the modern generation (Unless they have an interest in Australian Colonial history) and I do not think many of the students would know who those figures are, it’s as irrelevant as naming the houses Dolenz, Jones, Tork and Nesmith (aka the four original members of the Monkees)
I never had a problem with aboriginal names on house teams in the 80s, this Murdoch style OUTRAGE seems modern and confected so the red necks will bang the drum and appear more plentiful than they really are.
My public school used British explorers and a botanist for their houses when I was there: Banks (Yellow), Bass (Red), Cook (Green), Flinders (Blue).
The Student Representative Council decided the names were oudated in 2023. They discussed using Australian sport stars but thought those may become outdated too.
They decided to use the theme of native Australian animals in the local Dharawal language. The students then proposed the names:
Buru (Kangaroo - Yellow)
Warrigal (Dingo - Red)
Biraban (Emu - Blue)
Garilwa (Koala - Green)
So this happened three years ago. The students were consulted and involved in the selection process. There was no outrage or media headlines.
That’s right, it’s another invitation to participate in a consumer survey. I haven’t even heard of MRI Simmons before, I thought I was getting shocking news about a medical imaging test I didn’t order.
Nielsen invited me to participate in their program last year and used the exact same tactic, $2 in the mail with a delightfully miscellaneous letter to assure me they were legit. I didn’t take them up on it then, because at most I’ll watch Jeopardy! in the evenings and then maybe a little bit of Netflix or HBO during the week. And I don’t know if they want to hear “uh, well this week I watched seven episodes of The Simpsons that I downloaded onto my external hard drive because I didn’t want to pay for Disney+”.
More seriously, I never got so much as a look-in to participate in any broadcasting surveys when I lived in Australia (and watched a lot more broadcast TV). Here I’ve been asked twice in the last 12 months. Is this a representative experience for American residences? They must go through an absolute stack of $1 bills.
I feel great now that I’m a taxpayer again after 3 and a half years. This week I received my first payment from Queensland Health for my part time cleaning job .
