A piece of conceptual art consisting of a banana duct-taped to a wall called Comedian has sold for $9.57 million at an auction in New York.
The artwork by Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan, was a phenomenon when it debuted in 2019 at Art Basel Miami Beach, and sparked debate whether it was a joke or cheeky commentary on questionable standards among art collectors.
They didn’t buy the actual art piece that has gone off a bit by now:
The buyer has purchased a certificate of authenticity that gives them the authority to duct-tape a banana to a wall and call it Comedian.
Update
The new owner of the controversial art piece of a banana duct-taped to a wall has announced that he plans to eat the $US6.2 million artwork.
He’ll want to eat the wall as well to get his money’s worth.
Probably have to eat the whole room to justify the cost
At least if he did eat the room he would be increasing his fibre intake.
Justin Sun ate the artwork in front of journalists in a Hong Kong hotel today.
62 mil for a banana to eat? Inflation must be getting bad
Proof that some people have more money than sense.
I really wish the media would stop trawling the Dull Mens groups on Facebook for content
Hey everyone, I hope everyone is well! I got my results from my exams for uni, and I passed my only exam this semester and passed all two unit i did. Has been a nightmare of a year, but so glad I stuck with it.
I am also on sebatical from posting in certain threads, and have been mainly just been browsing the forum as a guest. Just have been enjoying setting up my forums and posting any anger messages in a private forum for the king of my new forums (its good to be king where i can just take out the frusturations in a post where no one can see it) - hopefully this will help curtail some of my own behaviour. But the break has been much needed.
I hope you all are well.
