For those here who go to Uni, do any of you still have in-person lectures?
Yes. However they are optional, you can either attend or watch it via the LMS after its recorded. Tutorials are mandatory.
Given the space is somewhat limisted at my university because of the influx of students we have had, there is some debate about whether in person lectures wont be around in a few years time.

Anyone else struggling to get onto news.com.au?
Working for me.
Weird. Iāve tried both safari and chrome.
Why complain about that lol
I havenāt felt 100% the last few days now I feel bad that Iām not going to get my required hours at the RSPCA this fortnight that I need to receive Centrelink ,instead of being required to apply for jobs.At my age thatās a waste of time and Iāve long accepted that thereās no suitable work for me anymore .
A few people have told me I should be on the DSP payment instead ,I am going to apply for it in the near future. If Iām lucky enough to be able to receive it I will still volunteer at the RSPCA, but I wonāt have to work the 30 hours per fortnight . Iāll be able to do as many hours as Iām able to or want to.
I work there 6o hours most months and Iāll be over 1000 hours before Christmas that will be another badge along with my 250,and 500 hour badges I already have.
If Centrelink want to check up on me they will find this out anyway.Theres so many out there who claim benefits and donāt feel guilty about not working but I still do 2 years after I left my last job.Doing volunteer work helps me feel not as guilty that Iām unable to do paid work anymore.
I just want to say Karen, I have followed your posts on here for a while now and of course your sometimes very funny posts in the Pet Peeves thread () and I want you to know I find you incredibly inspirational.
You seem like such a beautiful soul and I want you to know I hear you and I see you and never forget that youāre amazing and please donāt ever feel guilty for being on payments.
To me, youāve done so much for so many people and the fact you still volunteer is just so inspiring.
I saw my GP this morning she put me on a mild sleeping pill to help me sleep better and medication for acid reflux that has been getting worse and has stopped me from getting to sleep. I also had another blood test.
I donāt want to be driving an RSPCA van if I feel too tired or not well so I couldnāt do my volunteer driving job yesterday .
Saw this poster at a train station in Paris today. I reckon only in a non English speaking country could you get away with advertising the F word in public (not once but twice!).
Made me chuckle though.
At the RSPCA,now my main roles are in the laundry room 3 shifts a week (4 hour shifts) and 1 or 2 shifts driving their van for the wildlife hospital, dropping off animals or birds to carers or vet clinic pickups. This suits me as I donāt have to deal with too many people.
Thereās some volunteer roles where you have more contact with the public, such as volunteering in an op shop , and the RSPCA also has roles for volunteers in the offices assisting with fundraising etc,but I prefer a more behind the scenes volunteer role.
I was working in animal care with cats , 1 shifts a week for a while but they have plenty of volunteers there for now . It was frustrating whenever there was a quarantine issue with cats and you have to wear PPE gear to avoid spreading the infection and you canāt let the cats out of their enclosures to play with them or interact with them properly .Thats why I changed to working in the wildlife hospital and driving their vans a few months ago
Haha made me laugh
Glad to see you are doing well Karen and you are enjoying it and doing work for the community.
Yesterday I worked an extra shift at the RSPCA ,I know I shouldnāt but sometimes I feel guilty about staying home even if itās only 3 days a week I donāt work volunteer shifts .SO this week I will have done 5 shifts.
I went back to animal care as I havenāt done that for a while to work with cats as Iāve missed themšŗ
Yesterday there wasnāt many volunteers there for animal care ,I was surprised as I thought they had enough volunteers most days. Thereās more volunteers on weekends for animal care, usually people who work full time and high school or uni students who canāt volunteer weekdays.
Iāve worn a few hats in my time as a volunteer for them, first as a Laundry aide, and an animal care assistant, only with cats as Iām not a dog person, and more recently as a Wildlife driver and sometimes helping out in the Wildlife hospital, getting clean linen for them from the laundry, cleaning up the kitchen area where they prepare food for the birds and possums and other animal patients.
(brought over from the podcast thread)
worst day of my life when we were told that.
Red Kite however was fantastic. it started with a goodie bag that included an actual bag, a drink bottle, a blanket, a power bank, toiletries and a Coles voucher. Often, especially in Queensland parents come down for a day for the initial investigations and next thing you know they are stuck in the city for months. You donāt have things like Shampoo or a toothbrush and red kite provided that.
there was also a treatment diary where things like blood levels and weight could be kept as well.
we really appreciated this - the blanket especially became a part of our Go bag in case we needed to do emergency runs to the hospital (and we had a few. Those are do not pass go, do not collect $200 and jump any queue waiting for triage in the ED and go straight to the front of the line). I spent many nights under that red fleece blanket in the pediatric oncology ward.
there was also something more valuable than even a blanket - it was support. there were people we could talk to who have been though the journey and would listen to us and talk. that was the most valuable thing for me because as a father its hard to open up and the red kite support group really assisted that
Couldnāt see a āHealth/Lifestyleā thread???
But agree with this, and not only internet/gaming, but pay TV, multi channel free to air, climate change weather extremes are all a factor here too
Not sure if a āshower thoughtsā thread exsist, but hereās one from me:
Is MediaSpy like Sky News in the sense that we often will go after one newspaper and dismiss itās stories with nicknames?
The Daily Fail cough mail cough
I recently came across a laundry liquid brand at a New World supermarket and its logo resembles the former TV One logo, which is now TVNZ 1.
