I haven’t heard this on radio (outside of Braidwood FM) for a long time. A very underrated song.
Motor City is one of my favourites from the 90s as well.

Thanks Daniel! I need to keep in mind the hot tomato version too. I got one radio in a spot that gets 2st 102.9. Don’t know why Wsfm can’t take the countdown too.
Probably due to the difference between Metro and Regional, someone did contact ARN about it a while back about it and the result was no.
Yes, that might have been me… I emailed them and got a reply from Mike Byrne (then content director I think) and the explanation was the “different market forces” were the reason as to why Sydney didn’t get the Retro 20/20 (or something similar) on WS/Gold.
Thanks for trying @Radiohead .

Other stats (total songs 1440) - by country
Yeah it’s not bad. But I stand by my initial assessment, it’s straight as an arrow and many of those songs are over flogged and station changers for me. Have to say I’ll stick to the Breeze.
I’m actually finding the main Heart stations more interesting than Heart Hits
Agree totally, even amongst those songs I’ve listed that only got played once, there aren’t any real WOW songs there for me.
Another stat I meant to add - in that 4 day period, only 398 unique songs were played.
The playlist looks pretty good.
But it’s always annoyed me when these classic hits stations repeat tracks so often. I mean, it’s one thing for a CHR station to repeat new hits to build familiarity. But why would you play 30 - 50 year old songs multiple times per day, when there are so many other good tracks from the era to choose from?
Another observation relates to these stations with strict demographic cut off dates.
Using Star 104.5 as an example, they won’t play anything released before 1990. So if you have a major artist like Madonna, whose hits span the decades, they will play “Vogue” (1990) but not “Like a Prayer”, “Express Yourself” or “Cherish” (all 1989).
Does one year really make such a difference in terms of advertising demos? ![]()
The industry explanation seems to be that older listeners like familiarity too..
Which I can understand, but I can’t help but think there is a happier medium by playing some ‘forgotten’ songs, or a lesser hit by an established artist to add in that variety so there is still some familiarity there… perhaps stations like The Breeze might err on the side of too much variety/unfamiliar, but I’d prefer that to too much of the same.. for me, the ideal would be somewhere in between eg midway Gold and The Breeze.
Nope. The simple answer is if a listener isn’t aware of a song, they switch over or off. This is why a lot of the adult stations would wait a couple of months for songs to burn on CHR or Hot AC before playing them - so they have some familiarity. The amount of people like you and me, who love the more obscure or out there songs, is very small and these days especially stations are extraordinarily risk averse.
