Radio Stations - Music Logs

Thanks to streaming, here is a music log of a station which I don’t believe has been covered before:

947 - Johannesburg, South Africa
"If you love J’burg, 947 loves you!"
Monday, 26th November 2018 - 22.40pm - 00.10am AEDT

  • “Meant To Be” - Bebe Rexha Ft. Florida Georgia Line
  • “Running Wild” - Pascal & Pearce Feat. Jethro Tait
  • “Alone” - Alan Walker
  • “1, 2 Step” - Ciara Ft. Missy Elliott
  • “Better Now” - Post Malone
  • “Feel It Still” - Portugal The Man
  • “Trip” - Ella Mai
  • “Rejoice” - Bucie Ft. Black Motion
  • “Gettin’ Jiggy With It” - Will Smith
  • “Without Me” - Halsey
  • “What About Us” - P!nk
  • “Solo” - Clean Bandit Ft. Demi Lovato

I also recorded the station as I was listening to it, so I will upload a radio aircheck of the station sometime tomorrow.

That station used to (maybe still does?) have a fair bit of boundary advertising at the Wanderers in Joburg. Perhaps you could do the wonderfully named Jacaranda FM next?

I was planning on recording/listening to Jacaranda FM tonight actually, so I will make sure that I do a music log of the station as well.

In case you or anyone else is interested, here is the radio aircheck I recorded last night of 947 FM.

I’ll have to listen to see what I can pick up next year when I’m back in the Republic. Cape Town and Durban on the agenda so I’ll see if there’s localised or networked programming compared to Johannesburg.

I’ve just noticed on their websites of each Grant-owned station that if you click on “Open Player”, you have the list of the last 10 songs that have been played on a station.

Here’s Wave FM Wollongong for example: http://player.listenlive.co/61031/en/songhistory

Online Radio Box doesn’t have 2MMM’s playlist active at the moment, so this is a good guide to what the metro M’s are playing these days.

It’s worth noting that both WS & Smooth played “Count on Me” by Bruno Mars at around the same time, proving how similar the two stations sound from time to time.
Also, it’s interesting to see that 2MMM plays more 70s, as well as the occasional 60s track, than WS these days.

To each their own but not loving that at all.

Not one of those songs is adventurous or has any sort of wow factor. All have been played to death IMO.

I was recently looking at The Sound playlist from NZ and for me it’s just so much better.

I agree. I envy the good folks of NZ that have such a wide choice of radio stations covering various genres, even in smaller places such as Queenstown & Wanaka.

In NZ there’s more than 15 commercial stations in most places, so to stand out from the crowd you need to do something different.

I think you’ll find the MMM format is a “holding pattern” one with 350 or so songs for the start of the new year and when everyone is back, it will broaden out and move around a bit.

It would really need to
I couldn’t listen to that for very long at all.

I could, and I did! :stuck_out_tongue:

Had a listen to Coles Radio today, i’m not sure whether the playlists are different from state to state (doubt it), but the fact that they have streams for different states makes me wonder. Unfortunately, I can’t access the streams right now so can’t verify on that. Anyway, here is a playlist during part of the afternoon program known as ‘The Studio’ which is usually hosted out of Brisbane by Miriam Young but it seemed to be someone else today.

Coles Radio (VIC)
’The Studio’

3:30pm - 4:30pm (AEDT)

Lovely Day - Bill Withers

All Summer Long - Kid Rock :rage: :face_vomiting: :-1:
Angel Of The Morning - Juice Newton
Walk Alone - Rudimental/Tom Walker
Hammerhead - James Reyne :+1:
Cruise Control - Headless Chickens :+1:
Love Lost - Temper Trap (haven’t heard this in a while)
Video Killed The Radio Star - The Buggles
We Are Never Getting Back Together - Taylor Swift :rage: :face_vomiting: :-1:
Solitary Man - Neil Diamond
True Tears Of Joy - Hunters ane Collectors :+1:

It’s a playlist with a couple of songs I really like, and a couple I strongly despise. It is sort of expected with this station though, you would have to have something for everyone seeing as it’s played in major supermarkets.
