I don’t ever recall 4BU being “fantastic” or “funtastic” in the 70s at all.
I only ever remember Funtastic 4MB.

Here’s the station list in the instruction manual. Hope it helps.
Hmmmm….. I never knew that 2KA broadcast in Melbourne on 780 kHz!! ![]()
Here are a few more funtastic memories. 7LA and 2UW
A couple of Stereo 10 ads-
“Television on Radio” - Jacki MacDonald and Billy J. Smith
Morning Zoo
I really loved hearing Jackie and Billy J on Stereo 10 in those days.
4IP VW covered in denim comp - celebrating St Helena Island transmission at 5kW.
To facilitate the new setup they had to move off their frequency of 1010kHz to allow testing. (Threw in a colour radio jingle as well).
Star Wars - simulcast on TVQ 0 and 4MMM - radio advert
MMM was better known for simulcast of SevenRock on BTQ
SevenRock on BTQ
I recall there being a program called “FMTV Rock”.. I think between BTQ-7 and FM104

I miss FM104 so much. Loved how they played albums late at night in their entirety, commercial free. I didn’t realise how good we had it with that station until it was gone. The thought never crossed my mind, otherwise I would have bought hundreds of cassettes and recorded as much of it as I could.
To me, a simulcast of TV is so strange and foreign. But I have to remember, TV didn’t always have stereo sound so its a useful simulcast.
Yes, I don’t think there has been one since the 90s.

There was a simulcast of sorts in early 2005, when they held a benefit concert to raise donations for the victims of the Boxing Day Tsunami that hit much of Asia and even Africa. I say of sorts, because I’m not sure it was even meant to be a simulcast, just that it was carried on at least one TV and radio station simultaneously. I even vaguely remember that the radio and TV weren’t synced, but can’t remember if this was analogue TV or digital TV via Foxtel.
The idea of the FM radio simulcast was to run the sound through the home stereo system that were quite common. Stereo TV wasn’t very prevalent and in built TV speakers didn’t give the best sound.
How was it with syncing the audio with the vison? People winge about that today? lol.

it was pretty good IIRC. Probably one advantage analogue had over digital.
Correct. Radio and TV on analogue generally didn’t have any delay. I tested the theory a few times for live and local broadcasts. Satellite broadcasts may have have a slight delay.
I remember the Mushroom 25 concert being FM simulcast in 1998
Though there was still a delay from metro to regional areas.
Prime used to be a good 20 seconds behind Channel 7, so any simulcasts that regional radio ran would need to adjust their audio accordingly.

Yes, even in the 90s radio was better, wish I had recorded/kept stuff. As you allude to, at the time you think it’s ho hum and things will always be like this. I guess we should be thankful for those recordings that we do have.
I am sure someone, somewhere has a bunch of FM104 and/or 2JJJ-FM tapes awaiting conversion- we just need to lure them out of hiding. Due to sheer numbers a lot more of US/UK radio heritage was preserved.
