I think you may find online antenna modelling webpages available where you input number of antenna elements & antenna type & upper & lower frequencies or centre frequencies & BW then gain info, element length & spacing is output, perhaps even polar diagrams. I’m sure I’ve seen something like that in the past. I haven’t bookmarked any such pages sorry…

With the current height of my antenna above the tiles, do you guys think the roof would be affecting the signal strength coming in?

Also curious, how much does height affect MF and HF antennas? Specifically, I have the MLA-30 for my AirSpy server, if that makes any difference.

Nice set up! What’s the vertical rod on top of the TV antenna mast?

Do you have silver roof sarking under the tiles? If so it could certainly have a significant effect on the EM waves re radiation pattern etc. I believe I’ve also answered this question technically before, but generally on HF & upwards, rule of thumb is give your rx antenna some air.

With MF rx ant height isn’t a factor.
With HF transmissions incoming received angle of transmission is a factor in reception & frequency is a factor here & type of transmission antenna etc.
Lots of variables & considerations.

The mag MW/HF loop antennas are a good option with limited space & when surrounds are cluttered.

Thanks! That’s the ADS-B antenna for uploading to FlightRadar24.

I posted this earlier in this thread - but the ADS-B antenna is also useful for mapping out which directions I have good line of sight to, based on how far out my ADS-B reception goes:

Yep, I do. Probably part of the reason why I don’t really get any reception putting the antenna in the attic. But on the plus side, I assume it also keeps the RF noise from the house from going up to where the antenna is.

Thanks again for the info. Not sure if raising my MLA-30 will help with reducing the noise floor. Right now, it’s just above the gutter line.
