I wonder if the change of PI codes for Newcastle Triple J is to also stop the switch from Newcastle to Wollongong in fringe areas particularly during strong Tropo?
I wonder if all the other Triple Js north of Sydney also have had their PIs updated (and need updating on FMList so that the FM-DX-Webservers can log them properly). Can anyone in NNSW/SEQ confirm?
Interestingly, ABC Classic remains unchanged north + south of Sydney, though 95.7 Illawarra doesn’t have any AFs listed.
I suspect it might be just the JJJ transmitters in surrounding markets to Taree due to the potential PI conflict with 2RE, particularly if 2RE said they didn’t wish to change their PI code to accommodate the programmers of Triple J’s RDS PI codes. But who knows? Would be interesting to know if Coffs JJJ has since changed their PI code.
Hmm, that’d be annoying in terms of breaking the continuous Triple J AF coverage throughout the entire NSW coast. But if that were the case, couldn’t they just change all the Triple Js’ RDSs to the new 232B to retain the same PI code statewide?
Totally agree. And PI code xx2B (232B) is only now used by JJJ. Here lies the problem when ACMA doesn’t have & regulate a nationwide RDS PI Code database & the ONLY defacto ‘national’ database is our Community ‘Aus RDS List’ & the European located global FM List, that maintain a reasonable degree of accuracy for PI code planning. Are ABC/BAI, when choosing suitable PI codes, using our Community Aus RDS List (or FMList) or perhaps the inaccurate & poorly maintained CRA database?
More PI and AF changes:
Time to update FMList again
. No tropo at the moment, so I’m not sure if the ones further afield have updated also. Perhaps @Radiohead can check the ones further up north.
If 23F1 Classic and 23F4 is Triple J, I wonder if RN and News Radio will become 23F2 and 23F3.
Thanks for that! Both Classic and Triple J?
I note RDS for Classic in Orange has also been turned on.
PI: 23F1
PS: ABC_Clas
AF: 92.9, 95.7, 97.3, 102.3
PTY: Serious Classical
Checking my RDS logs, the switch on 95.7 happened around 11am this morning and around 4:23pm for 98.9.
Sadly 96.3 JJJ here is blocked by Coast FM. I’ll try when I go out tomorrow.
Good to know re Orange too!
Thanks for that. Did you manage to check Triple J too, by any chance?
Appears someone at BA is using the internal service codes for the RDS PI codes
F1= Classic
F2= RN
F3= Local Radio
F4= Triple J
FP= News Radio (not sure how they will do this one as the letter P can’t be used in PI Codes)
Likely to be less problematic with other broadcasters too, from what I’ve quickly checked. ![]()
