Seven News (Regional Vic/NSW/ACT/WA)

Liz Gwynn presented afternoon updates so she’ll likely present the updates tonight.

If you followed Kenny on Instagram, I’d assume in his latest post that he filled in for Dan in the 6.30 “National” news. Also, based on the YT uploads, Maddie will go solo in the NSW local news during Dan’s holiday break. And for obvious reasons, the Border edition don’t need to have a solo presenter assignment.

Liz Gwynn is a pretty good presenter, I reckon. Still prefer Isabel Moussalli, but Liz is good too

I’m retracting some of the details I’ve mentioned: It was only the North West edition that has Maddie presenting solo. Everything works normally in other editions, except either Kenny or Maddie do a 6.30 throw-in for/to the former. Apologies.

I’m up in Port Macquarie right now, and got to see Karl Lijnders present the weather.

I thought he was quite good, not in the David Brown league though…

Karl is great!

He knows exactly what he is talking about and is incredibly enthusiastic about it.

A great asset to Prime7.

Does Prime do news updates for Gippsland / Western Vic on weekends?

No, only local weather with Craig Moore as far as I am aware.

Does anyone know if Isabel Moussalli is still at Prime7?

Her twitter says she’s still there and she last tweeted only a few days ago

Thanks. I just wish she was the news update presenter instead of Liz Gwynn. Liz sounds too nervous from what I’ve seen.

Did anyone record Prime7 National News tonight?

I was thinking, if Prime7 (and 7QLD) was to introduce a composite bulletin to NSW and VIC how would it work? I am thinking of two possible scenarios…

  1. Get the current presenters at Prime7 to do 11 break-away windows for NSW and VIC (QLD can have their own).

  2. Poach another presenter/s from rival networks to present either the NSW or the VIC bulletin

Ofc it would be even better if these residents can get these bulletins on weekends as well, but one can dream right :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes: ?

In which markets do Prime do national news? I thought they all took an edited 7 News like 7QLD do?

Orange, Wagga, Tamworth & North Coast. Albury airs an edited version of Seven News Melbourne.

They should of kept that 30 minute delay of Seven News Sydney at 6.30pm in 2014 instead of launching the national news, Just cut the bulletin down for the stories least important to regional viewers.

Wasn’t that when 7News was 30 mn long, and so became a problem when Today Tonight was axed & replaced by an hour-long 7News?

The interesting thing is that the Brisbane bulletin, which runs for 1hr, is shortened to 30mins to air following Seven’s RQLD bulletins.

Props to Prime7 though for deciding to maintain local production with their own national bulletin, but it isn’t necessarily impossible for them to trim the Sydney or Melbourne bulletins for NSW and VIC.

As far as I’m aware, Prime7 actually did air condensed edition of Seven News Sydney in full local bulletin regions of NSW for (at least) the few weeks in Early 2014 between Seven News permanently being extended to an hour and the launch of Prime7 News at 6.30pm.

Realistically they’ll probably continue running with the “our audience is used to this format and that’s how it will stay” theory for the foreseeable future, but personally I think Prime7 would be better off running a composite edition (or maybe two - one for NSW and the other for Victoria) of the 6pm news in the long run. Perhaps something like this could work…

6.00pm to 6.12pm - Opener (including local, national & international headlines) & Local News segment.
AD BREAK
6.15pm to 6.24pm - Statewide, National & International News segment
AD BREAK
6.27pm to 6.36pm - Statewide, National & International Sport segment
AD BREAK
6.39pm to 6.48pm - Local Sport segment (if there’s not enough local sports content that day, maybe add in additional local news stories or generic filler pieces)
AD BREAK
6.51pm to 7.00pm - Weather (including local, state & national forecast information), a final fluff/puff piece & Closer.
