Seven News (Regional Vic/NSW/ACT/WA)

Bringing this back onto topic. I remember Prime also produced “Regional News Australia” (can’t remember which Prime studio produced this) and “Our Sporting Country” (produced from Albury) which was the ‘best’ news and sports stories from Prime Local News bureaus. I guess a weekly version of WIN’s All Australian News with local sport which broadcast across the network.

In the 90’s Prime (excluding GWN) had Prime News bulletins pumping out LIVE’N’LOCAL in Gold Coast, Tamworth, Newcastle, Wollongong, Canberra, Orange, Wagga Wagga and Albury, plus ‘Cross Country’ and everything else.

Obviously regional television revenues aren’t at 90’s levels but they need to think outside the box more. What’s stopping them getting an external company to produce a ‘Cross Country’ these days and share in the $$.

Media Release from Prime7:

METEOROLOGIST JOINS NEWS TEAM

KARL LIJNDERS TO DELIVER NEW APPROACH
TO REGIONAL WEATHER REPORTING

PRIME7 today announced that experienced Meteorologist Karl Lijnders has joined PRIME7 LOCAL NEWS as Weather Presenter to bring a more insightful weather forecast to regional viewers.

Lijnders, a founding moderator on www.weatherzone.com.au, has been writing and reporting on weather on radio, television and online since 1999. Having spent much of his career living in regional Australia, Lijnders has been a consulting meteorologist for the Australian Severe Weather Association and long range forecaster for The AV Weather Company across New South Wales and Victoria. Lijnders also provides counselling services to many community organisations following natural disasters.

Commenting on the appointment, PRIME7 Head of News Paul Patrick said, “You won’t find anyone else like Karl on regional television. Karl brings a passion to his job that will not only inform viewers but entertain them as well. His knowledge of weather is exceptional, he has the ability to strip back the science and make it palatable for us mere mortals”.

"Weather is one of the few things that unite us all - we are all affected by it, whether we live on the land, work in an office or going to school. I love helping people plan their day – what I am going to wear, can I go fishing this weekend, harvest our crops or simply hang out the washing?” Karl added.

Karl Lijnders will join Madelaine Collignon and Kenny Heatley on PRIME7 LOCAL NEWS from 6.00pm Monday 20th March.

It looks like Prime7 will have to have to re-edit those fairly new presenter openers already! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

But aside from that presentational observation, it’s a rather interesting development from the regional network at a time when I’m in a Prime7 News full bulletin viewing area!

They just need to use a shot of a cameraman instead.

New super

What an interesting adjustment, presumably because a new meteorologist (not just a weather presenter) joins the team. I wonder what it looks like later in less than two hours time (or three or four for Youtube).

This is what Seven News’ super should look like.

Much better, next on the list is that backdrop.

Better I think

10x Better than what they used previously.

Watching/recording the NSW North Coast bulletin now. Certainly an improvement on what they had before, now they need to work on the backdrop!

And just incase you were wondering, the Opening Titles have been updated to include a scene with Karl Lijnders.

I don’t see what’s wrong with the backdrop, all i would do is reposition the Prime 7 logo

But where’s Guy Fenton with my weather?

have you paid attention to this thread over the past 3 nights?

Just asking, where did Possums Club go? Do they still air the night time message?

He left the network. Replaced by meteorologist Karl Lijnders on Monday…or the evening Weather Updates on Friday night, whichever way you want to spin it.

Personally, I think it’s a good thing. Prime7 really needed a weather presenter who’d give Gavin Morris (who himself is actually a meteorologist, if the name super I saw during a report on NBN News over the weekend is to be trusted) on Nine/NBN a good run for his money.

I’m pretty sure that Possum’s Club got the flick at the end of 2013…or maybe 2014. Like other things at Prime7 like the removal of presenters for InfoNET, cutbacks probably.

Of course, Prime7 still airs Possum Kids Goodnights (with parts of the old Prime7 News set re-used as a kids bedroom bookshelf!) at/around 7.30pm nightly.
