If you ask @SydneyCityTV on that, Canberra has moved on from making their local bulletin on Prime7, the same as Seven who moved on from Today Tonight in the East Coast.
Agreed. The graphics and set are the only real problems with the execution of this.
Amazing how Prime7 have inadvertently discovered a winning formula… decades after the US and UK did. Local news at 6pm followed by national news at 6.30pm is traditional in the US, with the opposite being standard in the UK. Compare that to Nine, who’ve pursued this mixed formula which comes off as messy and, at times, not particularly local.
Fuck it, how about Seven do the same as Prime for the capital cities they’re losing badly in (Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne)? Local news at 6pm with a national newscast at 6.30pm?

Prime7 won’t be launching local news in Canberra anytime soon due to:
- Competition - WIN, Nine and ABC already established
- They are already #1 at 6 with a $0 cost relay of 7 News Sydney

I don’t think that will ever happen in Australia.
People in Sydney would not understand nor respond well to a news service at 6 that doesn’t report a Melbourne plane crash or trump victory or Turnbull upset till 630 in national news…
Also the difference between the us and Australia is their local and national news departments are run compleletly separately - ours are not
Do you run the same reports at 6 and 630?
Do reporters file a local angle and a national angle?

Over the better part of 3 decades, TV viewers in Australia’s metropolitan markets have come to expect a mix of local/state/national/international content on Seven and Nine’s 6pm bulletins.
People in Sydney and Melbourne wouldn’t want to watch 30 minutes of hyperlocal news followed by a national bulletin. Maybe two separate half hour bulletins in the traditional format could work on Seven & Nine (so viewers who arrive home at 6.25pm can catch a full bulletin at 6.30pm and feel like they haven’t missed anything), but definitely not a local/national split.

WIN didn’t commence local bulletins in Orange/Dubbo and Wagga until 1993.
The Prime7 needs to be in a white box. It comepletly gets lost on the set and story vison

The background (set) needs to not be the same/similar colour to the logo. The red set needs to go.

10 points for trying - but the red set and the whole graphics package (except weather) are terrible.
The red set could be a more subtle blue even.
A variation of Seven’s graphics package would be perfect.
Agree - it’s pretty shocking. It’s a shame as the anchors, and quality of the bulletins is really good - let down by a terrible set and GFX package.
Why could they not just get 7’s internal GFX department to build their openers and package, like the 7 QLD stations

Selected promos have PRIME7 and others just use the 7 ones, guess it depends how lazy they feel.

nice sledging of the staff in Prime’s promos department there.
It’d be like with SC10, if they don’t get the promos from 7 in time, they’d have to put them to air as is, without having the time to localize it.
Some would disagree but I honestly think they should ditch the prime/ gwn name from the broadcast in favour of just having 7NEWS (location) it just makes it link in with the news brand better.

The reason (or at least main one) for Prime rebranding to Prime7 was to cut the promo costs; since then they don’t routinely re-voice the 7 promos nor replace the 7 logo with a Prime one.
Occasionally they’ll do so (replacing the 7 logo or adding a PRIME7 logo & perhaps revoicing) for a promo which can get a longer run/be aired many times (coming soon, new year general promo, etc.) but apart from those rare ones we just see the original 7-branded promos.
However, the watermark on the main channel says PRIME7 rather than just 7; except during 7News (when & where shown on Prime7, e.g. 7News Sydney airs in Canberra), and most/live 7 Sport coverage (where Prime7 put the 7 logo on to fit into the space 7 are leaving next to the "LIVE & FREE | " thing, presumably because the PRIME7 logo would have to be tiny to fit in the space).
Much as I think it’d simplify things for Prime7 to fully rebrand to just 7 I doubt that’ll happen/any time soon, so the news bulletins they produce will still have the Prime7 name/logo, plus (ignoring their news efforts) overall Prime7’s co-branding is working well.
(But yes I agree 7News Location would work & fit into their current cobranding.)

According to their Twitter page, Prime7 dominates the local news ratings in the Central West & Riverina, attracting more than half of its 6pm audience, way ahead of WIN & Nine (their Riverina bulletin launches on Monday).
