I don’t mind people going through my bins for cans and bottles to add to their collection either (for the 10c recyclables scheme) - if the bins are out for their weekly kerbside pickup. 95% of the time, they are nice, but i’ve seen a handful not putting rubbish back in the bins. Or even going into neighbours yards to gain access to the bins.
There’s a right and wrong way with gaining access to bins.
Public transport travellers who even though they’re standing on a crowded service still need to be looking at their phones.I need my hands free to hang on for dear life if standing up on a crowded bus or train. I noticed this in Melbourne last week when I was on a crowded train.Don’t worry Melburnians ,I’m not having a go at you,Brisbane public transport users are guilty of doing this too. And in all other capital cities.
I feel safer personally if I’m holding on to a strap or seat back,it just amazes me these people don’t worry about falling over when they have nothing to hang on to
I would say they would have one hand holding on and another holding the phone. As long as the driver doesn’t drive too badly it should not be a problem. A few months back I am aware of the driver having to break aggressively due to traffic causing some passengers to receive significant injuries. Sometimes the drivers and the conductors at the bigger train stations need to be better at controlling the crowds so that the buses and trains are not too crowded.
Cranky female charging onto the bus I was travelling on yesterday, abusing the driver for being late, he had to swap buses due to a breakdown. She took her anger out at everyone on the bus.
It might be just me, but are people noticing society has become more painful this year?
It’s been getting worse and worse as time goes by.
I was coming back from the Home Show on the weekend and taking the light rail from the ICC to Central station and I had a old lady sitting across from me whinging about the lack of furniture at the Home Show, and going on and on about over abundance of floorboards. Like she didn’t do her research on who and what was going to be at the Home Show. Doing it quite loudly and doing herself no favours.
Pet Peeve: People who work in retail who can’t figure out basic maths.
Exhibit A: Yes I am a dinosaur and still use cash for incidental purchases. I was at a Foodworks and my bill came to a grand total of $7.22. I handed the check out operator a $5 note and two $2 coins. The mental gymnastics going on in their head to try and figure out change… and when there is a device literally right in front of them that could work it out for them. Eventually I was handed 30 cents in change. I reminded said check out operator that I handed them $9. Operator again struggled with making the calculation on the till and had to get their phone out to make the calculation. I politely prompted them, it’s $1.80 in change, which I eventually got once their phone calculated it for them. I know, first world problems, but come on this wasn’t difficult.
Exhibit B: At a takeaway shop, the total came to $17. I handed them a $20 note and a $2 coin. Oh no, that’s too much it’s only 17, they reminded me. I said I know but I just want a $5 note in change instead of more coins. Again, operator had to resort to punching the numbers into the till to confirm what I told them.
I see social media videos of dumb Americans being stumped by the most basic maths equations, but we are literally just as bad here. Are we so dumbed down by technology that nobody is taught or uses basic maths skills anymore?
