IDK - I was just reading what the AOC posted on Instagram.

It’s actually Melbourne Park Oval.

More information on the welcome home events can be found at the AOC website.

It says Melbourne Park Oval on the VIC website, but Olympic Park on the AOC website? Are they the same venue.

EDIT - Never mind, it’s the same oval.

Is this not ‘Grand Slam Oval’ (outside John Cain Arena on the south-western quadrant of Melbourne Park) during the Australian Open?

Melbourne and Olympic Parks Trust (via the Victorian Government and leased to Tennis Australia to co-run) operate Melbourne Park.

Or is it referring to the old Olympic sports grounds, usually used for Athletics Victoria, near AAMI Park and/or AAMI Park?

I googled Melbourne Park Oval, and it came up with Olympic Park Oval, the one near AAMI Park (and the MCG).

Yeah, Melbourne Park Oval is more likely to make me think of Grand Slam Oval, and Olympic Park is more likely to point to the AIA Centre Olympic Park Oval next to AAMI Park.

Swimming Australia has sacked Michael Palfrey for his comments to South Korean media that he hoped Kim Woo-min - who he was also working with - would beat Australia’s Elijah Winnington and Sam Short in the men’s 400m freestyle. Germany’s Lukas Märtens took out the gold medal in the event, with Winnington claiming silver ahead of Kim, who won bronze.

Unfortunately some of our biggest stars and medallists won’t be attending as they are back overseas competing.

I booked to go up to Sydney as I want to meet the Fox sisters but Jess Fox announced via her instagram story that both Noemie and herself won’t be attending as they are back in Europe. Very disappointed. I get why the governments have waited until the Paralympics had concluded but this means it is over a month since the conclusion of the Olympics and despite some of the athletes returning home, they have how returned overseas to continue completing.

Hopefully one day I can meet them. Being a Melbournian, it is hard as the sisters are Western Sydney based and don’t really do meet and greets in Victoria. They have done two meet and greet events (an appearance at Red Bull Coogee and then a lunch) but both were Sydney events. I know that the ladies have said they look forward to sharing their successes with the communities so hoping there is an opportunity that I can meet them one day :crossed_fingers:
