29 November 2001 - The final episode of $ale of the Century airs on the Nine Network. It is replaced by Shafted the following year hosted by Red Symons.

Poor ratings leads Shafted to be axed after 40 episodes and replaced by repeats of Frasier.

Was Sale Of The Century still winning its timeslot when Nine rested the program at the end of 2001? Or was Home & Away #1 at 7pm even as far back as then?

30 November 1963: Nine’s coverage of the Federal Election across Sydney and Melbourne marks the commencement of its coaxial cable link between the two cities, though it was formally launched on 1 December.

The cable was installed in 1962 but use by TV stations was done sparingly until Nine secured a long-term lease on capacity on the cable, aimed at improving efficiencies in sharing news and other content between TCN9 and GTV9. A first step towards ‘networking’, I guess.

30 November 2012 - THe final bulletin on Breakfast went to air on CHannel 10. During the final bulletin, Paul Henry and Kathryn Robinson thanked viewers for their wonderful support over the past 9 months. Unfortunately, Breakfast struggled throughout the breakfast news ratings war where it was beaten heavily by Sunrise and Today and even ABC News Breakfast. Also, on that day, the 6pm edition of The Project went to air for the final time before moving back to its 6:30pm timeslot. It was replaced by repeats of Simpsons.

Unfortunate but not unforeseen. It was an indulgence of the junior Murdoch who thought that importing an unknown New Zealander for a million dollars was going to pay off.

Wait what?!

In the early years, HSV-7 was affiliated with TCN-9 Sydney while GTV-9 would join up with ATN-7 Sydney.

I dont think it was until 1960-ish when the Packer family bought into GTV9 that the affiliation changed

Well, well, well… So the two big ‘rivals’ were partners after all!

TCN9 in Sydney was paired up with HSV7 in Melbourne for ad sales and sharing overseas program purchases.

So, ATN7 was paired up with GTV9.

But when Sir Frank Packer (who owned TCN9) bought GTV9 in Melbourne in 1960, it forced a swap in arrangements. From 1962, TCN9 becoming linked to GTV9, and ATN7 with HSV7. And in doing so forming what we now know as the Nine and Seven networks.

Gosh, imagine if that never happened!
I reckon there would have to be LCN switches across the east coast!

Would’ve made things very interesting.
