November 26, 2015: The return/relaunch of Nine HD, 9Life starts broadcast and Gem/Go! rebranded as 9Gem and 9Go!
It was great that 9 returned broadcasting the primary channel in HD 4 years ago. Back in Sep 2010, Nine dropped its HD channel in favour of the launch of multichannel GEM. 5 years later, I was able to watch cricket and NRL on 9 in HD.
26 November 1976: RTS5A in Riverland, South Australia, is officially opened. The region had a local ABC station for a number of years already. With a local population of 29,000, RTS5A was broadcasting to the one of the smallest (if not, THE smallest) TV markets in the country.
Now Seven Riverland
isn’t it WIN (Ten)? with 7 and 9 as secondary?
Correct it’s now WIN (Channel 10).
We’ve discussed Logopedia before…
27 Nov 1998 - MIdday went to air for the final time on Nine after nearly 14 years on air. Kerri-Anne thanked viewers for their loyal support.
27 Nov 2009 - Ian Ross presented his final bulletin of Seven News Sydney after 6 years. He thanked all his colleagues and viewers for their wonderful contribution. He took Sydney’s Seven News to a dominant Number 1 from 2005 right through to 2009. Ian Ross had a fantastic 52-year career in newsreading.
Posts deleted…The death of Phil Hughes was sad, no doubt. What it has to do with TV exactly, I’m not sure.
26 November 2006: Damien Leith won season four of Australian Idol, beating Jessica Mauboy in the grand final which was watched over 2.1 million viewers in five major cities. The grand final was broadcast live into Northern Territory for the first time, to allow local fans to vote for Mauboy during the show. At that time, Darwin station NTD was affiliated with Nine having dropped all Channel Ten programs a couple of years earlier. Public pressure forced NTD to show Australian Idol into the Top End. (Imparja aired the finale in the rest of NT)
27 November 2010 - Hey Hey It’s Saturday ends production for the last time and for good. GTV-9 ends its final production which was a party at its old studios prior to its move
27 November 1965 - STV8 Mildura started tranmission
29 November 2002 - Brian Henderson retires from television after nearly 40 years presenting Nine News Sydney on weeknights. A wonderful tribute was presented by Ken Sutcliffe at the end of the extended bulletin.
29 November 2017: The U.S. breakfast TV market was shaken up by the announcement by Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb that co-anchor for almost 22 years Matt Lauer had been fires for sexual harassment.
A month later, it was confirmed Hoda Kotb would replace him.
From my YouTube channel sirmechie, here is that bulletin in full. Some of the audio is muted due to a copyright claim but most of the content is there. https://youtu.be/lnEM2OHOmiA
