8 November 1976: The Nine Network premieres serial drama The Young Doctors in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. (Adelaide followed the next night)

8 November 1977: The Box airs its final episode in Melbourne, ending a four-year run. The final episode was originally planned for 11 October but was postponed due to industrial action interfering with scheduling.

8 November 2001: The Nine Network‘s Getaway presents a special episode for its 10th anniversary

8 November 2002: Network Ten premieres children’s series Legacy Of The Silver Shadow, starring Eloise Mignon, Alex Hopkins, Stephen Lopez, Aljin Abella and Stephanie McIntosh.

GTV9’s use of the slogan “World Vision” was not related to the humanitarian organisation of the same name, but rather refers to an international “affiliation” of program ideas, formed by ABC in America, and heralded Nine’s broad attack on the popular “Seven Revolution” in October 1970.

9 November 1990: The Seven, Nine and Ten networks all participate in a simultaneous broadcast, Cartoon Allstars To The Rescue, helping young children understand the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. The half-hour special, which attracted more than 33 million viewers when it aired in the US, features cartoon characters representing the major animation studios. The Australian screening of the program was introduced by Prime Minister Bob Hawke and Hazel Hawke. The three networks repeated the special, again in simulcast, on Christmas Eve.

9 November 1991: Hey Hey It’s Saturday presents the first of its two special shows from the Warner Bros studios in Hollywood, with guest appearances by Chevy Chase, Toni Childs and Murphy Brown star Joe Regalbuto.

9 November 1994: The Nine Network screens the first of the series of Halifax fp telemovies, Acts Of Betrayal. Jane Halifax (Rebecca Gibney) helps an old friend, psychiatrist Owen Toser (Andrew McFarlane) when he is accused of murdering a patient, Corri Neale (Sophie Lee).

yes I remember that. The commentary sounded like they were speaking into a telephone. Channel 9 screened the Australian (they batted first) innings live, then the England run chase was shown delayed after the Sunday night movie.

The only time Roy and HG were featured in a Federal Election broadcast. Also on the same day Ten aired Stakes Day which would be their last broadcast of the Melbourne Cup Carnival until 2019

So the AFI/AACTA Awards have been switching between networks in the past 30 years, with the ABC, Seven, Nine and 10 televising the event at a time.

Also on this day, Martin Flood became the second jackpot winner on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? in Australia.

His win was shrouded by controversy as allegations of cheating marred his run to the top prize, but he was cleared of any wrongdoing.
