The court ruled early Sunday morning that the inquiry that led to Chiles’ score being increased - moving her from fifth to third in the women’s floor final - was improperly granted, as it was submitted past the one-minute deadline.
The court said the 23-year-old should have received her original 13.666 score and placed fifth.
LOL at her sister already branding this move as ‘racist’.
So when other countries appeal the Americans are the first to call it cheating, yet when they appeal and fail they get all sour grapes and become sore losers. Typical American double standards.
Yes - Brisbane has been offered an opportunity to be prepared for 2032 well in advance of the event by being awarded the games early. They shouldn’t squander that.
Whoever ends up being elected in Queensland in a few weeks needs to prioritise a plan forward
I think it’s very simple.
Brisbane won based on their presentation to the IOC so therefore whatever they presented to them they MUST deliver.
Otherwise it should be taken away from them.
It’s not the IOC’s problem if Brisbane has suddenly decided they can’t afford it. They shouldn’t have presented something unaffordable then.
If they can’t deliver then they need to give it to someone who can.
I feel the main problem with Brisbane is that given it’s so far out the politicians on both sides right now don’t find it politically advantageous to bring forth this massive regeneration program that Brisbane needs to host such a global event. They’re only shortsighted about the immediate term and not the long term. That is of course ridiculous given how transformational this can be and quite frankly the Gabba and QEII don’t cut it as a centerpiece for a games.
I’m not saying they have to build everything from scratch for every event but at least one or two legacy items is of course possible given the event isn’t until 2032.
The Gabba isn’t even going to be used anymore - ceremonies will be at Lang Park.
Taiwan/Chinese Taipei’s Lin Yu-Ting, the other half of the gender debacle, has won the gold medal in Women’s 57kg boxing.
Really angry with news .com.au’s unrelenting reporting of ‘Raygun’, still top headline, followed by another below and their typical clickbait images and titles. So much for AOC partner
Sally Pearson’s opinion piece this morning is right, many are going to end up talking about or remembering this, rather than our record gold medal haul and most successful Olympic Games ever and all the colour that went along around that!
Good on Anna Meares’ media conference and stern words last night, 100% agreed.
It also fails to take into account that this stuff takes time (and often, lots of time) - even with accelerated pathways that the Government can introduce to support whatever they decide, you still need a fair amount of time to do pre-construction activities.
The idea of an Olympics infrastructure legacy seems to have gone by the wayside - I suppose having multiple host cities fail to do it has made this an easy decision, but the decision not to do something with the Gabba is baffling to me (even if its to abandon the site for say Victoria Park). Its clear that its suitability for modern sport is fading and will need considerable investment at some point in the near future. The Olympics seems like one of the best opportunities to achieve this
Oceania, eh! 18 gold so far to Australia, all-time record. 9 to our NZ mates, their best ever. And other countries too
Poll time:
- Better than the opening ceremony
- Just as good/bad as the opening ceremony
- Worse than the opening ceremony
Can’t be worse, surely. Rumour is Tom Cruise for a big climactic stunt.
The 16th and final day of the 33rd Games of the Olympiad are well underway, started with the Women’s Marathon Final (final event of the Athletics program).
Feature events include: More finals at the Velodrome, Water Polo Final (W: Greece vs Spain | M: Serbia vs Croatia), and the women’s basketball final (France vs USA).
And it all concludes tomorrow at 5:00am AEST with the Closing Ceremony at Stade De France, celebrating our athletes and the exhausting of the flame. Plus, expect big musical performances with Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Snoop Dogg, and Billie Eilish. And Tom Cruise set to make a appearance during the LA28 handover.
It’s been an amazing 2 weeks of competition. But let’s enjoy them one more time before we say Au revoir to Paris.
Before we go back in two weeks for the Paralympics!
Ah yes. Forgot about that. Cannot forget our Paralympians.
I think it won’t be too bad as it is back in the stadium. This is the first Summer ceremony back in a stadium in front of a crowd since 2016 and they don’t have the financial constraints of Covid times so I am expecting a good show
IOC in a statement via email: “The IOC will reallocate the bronze medal to Ana Barbosu (Romania). We are in touch with the NOC of Romania to discuss the reallocation ceremony and with USOPC regarding the return of the bronze medal.”
— Emily Giambalvo (@EmilyGiam) August 11, 2024
Ana Barbosu also said on social media:
Sabrina, Jordan, my thoughts are with you. I know what you are feeling, because I’ve been through the same. But I know you"ll come back stronger.
I hope with all my soul that at the next Olympics, all of us will be on the same podium.
This is my dream

NZ will pick up another medal- either silver or gold in the women’s sprint. Our brethren from across the ditch really killing it these games.
Are the media over there hyping all of this up??
