NRL on Nine

The NRL also seemed to have ignored trackwork notice on some Sydney train lines when they schedule the first week of this month’s finals.
According to Transport NSW website, buses will replace trains on the T1 line between Emu Plains and Blacktown (including Penrith) next weekend, affecting Panthers v Warriors game on Saturday. So tens of thousands of Panthers fans will have to travel by bus to Blacktown to catch the train to ANZ Stadium. This will be avoided if the match is played on Friday night.
The Roosters-Sharks game will also be affected by track works on the T4 line.

Pre-empting the usual outrage from The Daily Telegraph over track work clashing with a sporting event. Far more people catch the train on the weekend for other purposes but the Telegraph never gets outraged for them.

Anyway, the Penrith Panthers have buses going from Penrith direct to ANZ Stadium. They run the buses for all Penrith away games in the Sydney area.

I wonder who did the Broncos game for Nine on Sunday?

Ray Warren will call 1-2 matches per week during the upcoming NRL finals. This week he will only commentate the Roosters-Sharks qualifying final.

Mat Thompson.

Because Ray Warren hates flying, there needs to be commentators for the Storm v Rabbitohs (AAMI Park), Penrith v NZ Warriors (ANZ Stadium), and Broncos v Dragons (Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane). It looks like Ray Hadley might call Penrith v NZ Warriors match, while Mat Thompson will do the Storm v Rabbitohs and Broncos v Dragons games. On Saturday, will be a double header in Sydney. I believe that Erin Molan might be hosting the Roosters v Sharks final. Keep James Bracey for Friday and Sunday’s matches.

Read a couple of articles today explaining that NRL wanted to avoid pitting a clash (and therefore Nine definitely would’ve wanted it avoided) however it was due do Penrith Panthers causing an upset win over Melbourne Storm on Friday night, which threw eveything out the window according to finals fixturing policy with Top 8.

Very unfortunate then. Best outcome will be for a one-sided Melbourne vs Geelong game.

Its not really a double header in Sydney as the 2 finals are at separate venues, thus it wouldn’t have been possible to use the same commentaators for both finals.

He flew to Melbourne and Brisbane this year.
He does try to avoid flying, but not totally. From that SMH article, my emphasis:

ALL GAMES LIVE AND FREE ON NINE & 9NOW, PLUS

THE LAUNCH OF THE HOLDEN WOMEN’S NRL PREMIERSHIP

After the closest season in NRL history, all four Qualifying Finals are LIVE and FREE on Nine this weekend, along with the inaugural Women’s NRL competition.

Tonight, LIVE at 9.30pm AEST on Nine, host Erin Molan previews a big first week of the finals, alongside former rugby league stars Beau Ryan and Ryan Girdler . They are joined by the number one FM radio team of Jonesy and Amanda , who sound off on their teams’ chances of winning. The panel cross live to Brad Fittler as he tours country towns on his Hogs for Famers charity motorcycle ride, and Billy Slater, Sam Thaiday , Wade Graham and James Maloney talk up their teams’ hopes ahead of the big games.

In the 1st Qualifying FInal from 7.00pm* on Friday, the Melbourne Storm are at home against the Rabbitohs as they endeavor to win back-to-back NRL premierships. Though they let the 2018 minor premiership slip away to the Roosters, the Storm welcome back strike weapons Billy Slater and Cameron Munster to take on a South Sydney side featuring dangerous strike weapons such as Greg Inglis and Damien Cook , who ran rampant against Melbourne the last time they met. Souths must break one of the greatest hoodoos in the NRL if they want to win, however – they have never defeated the Storm in Melbourne.

In the 2nd Qualifying Final at 5.00pm *** on Saturday, the Warriors travel to ANZ Stadium to play the Panthers, with the loser being eliminated from the competition. After a much-needed win against the Storm last week, the Panthers must show the form they have on paper to stave off an always-unpredictable Warriors side. Shaun Johnson and Issac Luke will be critical for the visitors, while two-time premiership winner James Maloney must be at his scheming best for the Panthers alongside his highly touted halves partner, Nathan Cleary .

Saturday night sees the 3rd Qualifying Final live at 7.30pm* at Allianz Stadium, with the Roosters hosting the Sharks in what many are calling the match of the weekend. The Sharks have looked as good as any team over the past four weeks, with star fullback Valentine Holmes one of the form players in the league. He will line up against Latrell Mitchell, who will be hoping to create some highlights of his own and send his side straight into a Preliminary Final.

In the 4th Qualifying Final live at 3.00pm* on Sunday, the Broncos host the Dragons, with the loser out of the running for the premiership. The Broncos’ backline with Corey Oates, Jamayne Isaako and James Roberts have been at their scintillating best in recent weeks, but the Dragons get a massive boost from returning stars Gareth Widdop and Euan Aitken .

News is at 4:30 after Women’s NRL.

I wonder what would happen if the main guys can’t go because if flight issues to lets say Brisbane? Would they use Peter Psaltis for commentary, since he’d would be doing the womens game earlier.

Probably call off tube in Sydney.

During the Home-and-away season, they didn’t upload the pre-match and post-match coverage on 9now. Yesterday 9Now has uploaded the Pre-Match and Post Match coverage of the Finals Series as catch-up. If you have missed it, you can watch the pre and post match coverage anytime, anywhere on 9now.

Something I haven’t seen Nine do before.

House James Bracey was on the field at ANZ Stadium for the preview of the Penrith vs Warriors game, and 2 hours later was on field at Allianz Stadium for the Roosters vs Sharks preview.

I’m pretty sure Sterlo called the Penrith Warriors game at ANZ and is now calling the Roosters Sharks game at Allianz.

He was at the Panthers v Warriors game, but I haven’t heard him on Roosters v Sharks yet.
