Nine Tennis Coverage

Nine have already had live streaming of non-broadcast programs on 9Now. I think it would be simple for Nine to do that.

If Nine put all its resources on the Australian Open, how can it properly cover Tour Down Under as it overlaps with the first week of the tournament? Nine may have no choice but to give up the rights to the cycling.

Re, app/website coverage and multichannel utilisation: I’d imagine we’ll know more about Nine’s plans for that closer to Summer.

If Nine still plan on covering it, coverage of the Tour Down Under cycling could move to one of the multichannels?

But it means one less channel to show the tennis.

Nine CEO Hugh Marks told the Australian Financial Review it was important to get full digital rights from Tennis Australia, so the network could have discussions with other digital platforms like Facebook and YouTube.

The plan to turn Davis Cup into a one-week, 18-nation event was passed by a 71.43 per cent majority by the 210 member nations during an International Tennis Federation meeting in Orlando, Florida. Tennis Australia voted against the change, as it is supporting ATP’s plan for a World Team Cup.
The overhaul will require revision in Nine’s deal with Tennis Australia as it covers Davis Cup.

Also, the Herald Sun reports today that British commentator Sam Smith has joined Nine’s commentary team. She was part of Seven’s Australian Open coverage for several years.

Anyone have a video of the Nine Tennis promos?

Any word on Nine planning to onsell parts of its tennis coverage to Foxtel?

Story in The Australian today had no details about any onsell, just mentioned it as a possibility.

I thought I saw a promo for 9Gem?

Just checked online guide, it’s on 9Gem

I saw the promo last night and it said the Davis Cup would be on 9GO!. I reckon it only applies to AFL states, because NRL semi finals will be shown on 9Gem at the same time.

Sorry, but that is not correct. An example from Boxing Day 1961 when the ABC, Seven and Nine all broadcast the Davis Cup.

AUSTRALIA TAKE ON AUSTRIA

Friday, Saturday & Sunday

Nine’s Wide World of Sports will broadcast Australia’s Davis Cup tie against Austria this Friday, Saturday and Sunday on 9Gem and 9Go!

Australia’s new tennis hero, US Open giant-killer John Millman , leads our assault on the World Group play-off in Graz, Austria.

Millman’s US Open heroics, which saw him beat Roger Federer to reach the quarter-finals for the first time at a Grand Slam event, propelled the Queenslander to a career-high ranking of number 37.

Our five-man squad will include Aussie legend Lleyton Hewitt , donning the green and gold for his first Davis Cup appearance since 2016.

The Australian contingent will also feature Alex de Minaur , who this month rose seven places to a career-high world ranking of 38 after advancing to the third round of the US Open.

Rounding out the team for the clay-court tie are the gritty Jordan Thompson and doubles specialist John Peers .

Austria’s team is headlined by eighth-ranked Dominic Thiem , one of the best clay-court players in the world, having reached the final of this year’s French Open.

Also lining up for the Austrians are Dennis Novak , brothers Jurgen and Gerald Melzer , and Oliver Marach.

Fronting the Wide World of Sports broadcast is Tony Jones , with commentary from Todd Woodbridge , Sam Groth and John Fitzgerald .
