Nine Tennis Coverage

Just wondering, Does 9 have to use the graphics provided by TA? Because ESPN has their own score graphic.

I recall Seven used their own also.

From memory Nine decided to use the TA graphics, not forced.

I think it makes pretty good sense to use the TA graphics. It helps to keep the coverage consistent between the games they show and commentate themselves on 9/9Gem and the games they show through the world feed on 9Now/Stan. Plus it’s something else they don’t have to worry about in their own production, they can just take the TA feed with the graphics and put their own commentary on top and work extra graphics in when they like.

ESPN and Seven likely went with their own graphics as they have a greater consistency across the sports they cover (ESPN have moved away from this with some of the bigger sports, but they have kept a consistent look with their lower tier sports).

At 8:15 PM, Nine Perth abruptly cut off coverage to head straight to Nine News Perth. Unfortunately there was no post match presentations for Perth viewers.

Surely they could have scheduled the post match presentation on one of the multi-channels in Perth. Such a shame it was cut abruptly.

Why the urgency, especially with it being a relatively short final too. Had it been 5 sets they’d have been waiting another 2 hours anyway, so another 15-30 minutes wouldn’t have harmed.

Hopefully those in Perth and regional WA that wanted to keep watching went to 9Now, where the raw court feed/world feed Live Stream was available, also Stan Sport. But yes, that’s pretty poor form

I saw the presentation on Stan Sport. Also had multi screen coverage of all courts live and on-demand which was a bonus

Telecast wrapped at 12:17am (11:17pm in Brisbane and 9:17pm in Perth), with James Bracey signing off on behalf of his team.

It’s probably a good thing (for Nine not fans anyway) it didn’t go 5 sets or it might still be going! And all the Post wouldn’t be done until after 2am. And so much wouldn’t have counted in prime time share in some markets. With this tournament’s ratings down, I don’t think even a 5 set with the calibre of those two players, would’ve been able to sustain audience deep like 2012 for example on a night everyone goes back to school and work tomorrow.

I remember this happening in Melbourne a few times following the NRL Grand Final coverage, especially after the 2009 NRL Grand Final which the Storm won (though this premiership was later stripped from them due to salary cap breaches); after full-time GTV went straight to the news and didn’t show the post-match presentation.

I also remember at least one other occasion where, after the 2000 Grand Final, Ray Warren said something among the lines of “and this is where we farewell our GTV viewers” shortly before the post-match presentation.

Seven did that in 2018 too in Perth when Roger Federer won his final grand slam title

The Sounding Board podcast has torn News Corp to shreds in their 2023 premeire podcast last week over its apparent ‘campaign’ against Nine (the only real platform I’ve seen go into detail about it):
