For starters, the expenditure for those types doesn’t come close to the amount many networks spend on sports rights. Not to mention the nature of such expenditure has changed in recent years (e.g., shifts away from big content deals, staff layoffs in news divisions - including Nine, etc)
Nine may as well introduce a new sports channel by the long list of sports they are offering. Maybe the new channel might be nine wide world of sports
Two marquee games on the Nine Network - including a Saturday night game. Good to see them getting a primetime game on FTA. Definitely won’t be on the main channel, as it is too niche of a sport. So it will be on 9Gem (and 9GO during the Australian Open). Will see in due course when and where the second game will be on.
The “NBL Overtime” - the new weekly NBL show. Glad that there will be a basketball show for Nine. But I do wonder if that will be on Nine (or 9Gem), or thrown onto 9Now.
Plus, what it has tied up with Stan sport.
Not a new show - new to Nine, but it’s been on NBL’s own outlets for ages.
I think the second game will be held in Brisbane / Adelaide / Perth and start at 8.30pm or 9pm AEDT, to take advantage of time difference during daylight savings period. The early game will start at 6.30pm or 7pm AEDT and will take place in Sydney, Melbourne, Wollongong or Hobart.
So both FTA games are on Saturdays? That’s gonna screw the Kings around, they got a lot of the Sunday games at home.
Is this the same show that has been on ESPN for a few years now? I could be wrong but isn’t it mainly just a pre and post game show for NBL so it was also on Ten.
It’s their weekly review show. It’s been on their YouTubr page but I think it’s also on their website and ESPN too.
Yeah, but that’s exactly it, the expenditure has changed in recent years. There’s clearly a desire from Nine’s advertisers to present their brands in sports content plus its driving subs to Stan (although not in this case). Their financial models and goals have clearly changed.
Not sure that’s entirely accurate, content supply agreements / licencing with major studios and CFTA even in Australia can often be in the hundreds of millions of dollars when they’re expansive and long-term (e.g.) AFAIK Nine and now Seven’s outputs with NBC-U in 2019 and 2023 respectively.
In an SEN interview, NBL CEO David Stevenson mentioned that the Saturday night games will be played at 5:30pm and 7:30pm AEST/AEDST (or 7:30pm and 9:30pm AEST/AEDST if the second game will be in Perth) and they’ll air on a combination of Nine’s main channel and a secondary channel (guessing 9Gem).
5:30 on a secondary channel, 7:30 on the main channel. Seamless double header on 9Go, are Nine’s games being simulcast on ESPN?
Yes. All games on ESPN
There’s a few games of NBL1 on Kayo and the Rest are on NBL.com.au. NBL+ Channel 9/Stan should go after this as well?
Arsenal and PSG will contest for the UCL title on June 1. Kickoff 2.00am AEST with coverage beginning from (at least) 1.30am.
Can’t wait for the disappointment on May 24 when it’s inevitably revealed that the game will be on 9Gem nationally.
Disappointment?
It’s the first year under Nine’s deal the match will kick off early enough for national main-channel coverage.
Previous years started at 5am, which overlaps with Today should the match extend beyond regulation.
