I honestly think it would have been better for 9 to just take the home feed. I know it’s not what they wanted as they wanted people to learn the sport before the Olympics but this broadcast is kinda awful
And even more. Can barely get 10 seconds of clean coverage at a time now.
Surely an apology graphic would be in order.
You’d still deal with the same problem had they done that. I am 99.9% certain about that.
For a broadcast squarely aimed at Australia, no one from Nine has reached out to them and said “we’re having problems with receiving the feed”. They just keep going pretty much blindly.
I’m expecting the next goal, if any, to be blacked out.
The sound has just massively dipped in volume, which seems to have caused the picture to stopped dropping out.
The NY people mentioned before they were reading social media, so odd that they haven’t seen the many complaints on Twitter about this.
Thank God the goal came after the picture stabilized.
But now overtime is going to wreck the game-winning call.
Probably the league wouldn’t pick that up either were they to do an “all calls” compilation.
I think 9 need to go back to the drawing board before the game next week and work out a better presentation. Today’s was pretty bad. Commentary was so boring, should have saved them for the studio stuff at the end of each period and taken the local commentary.
Should note Keith Irizarry only has host and contributor roles in the States. This is pretty much his first time assuming the play-by-play role.
It won’t improve overnight. I’d give him five games before everything settles in.
Also keep in mind the feed is being dumbed down for the Aussie audience. Can’t go too deep into specialist stuff.
Just wished that there was a ticker at the bottom of the screen saying the likes of “we apologise for the constant blackouts. We are working on fixing this problem”. Even if there’s very little they can do. Just the bare minimum would have been nice.
I hope that it will be working better for next week.
WNBL using the NBL graphics package from 2019-22, big upgrade from previous years but interesting that the NBL has changed twice since.
Edit: Those NBL graphics for reference.
What can Nine do about it though? The NHL is producing it, not Nine. The technical issues made it a difficult watch and need to be addressed, but outside of that, they are working with what they are given.
You’d think the NY team would realise those problems as the first or second one arose. The third one should have been the final straw to address.
The fact it went unacknowledged all game long visually or aurally suggested to me that (pretty much only) Nine was at fault.
It was a NHL production and transmitted by Nine. The signal went down more than total SOG that game.
Really we don’t know. There could very well have been technical issues with the feed in New York that they couldn’t easily rectify. Without knowing more details, laying blame squarely on Nine seems like a long bow to draw.
If your point stands, there has been no communication between Nine and NHL Productions.
The former was asleep at the wheel to say the least. The other probably haven’t even realized.
If it wasn’t rectifiable, throw up a caption or a holding screen. The software hasn’t been damaged beyond repair like 10’s playout crash last month, I’d assume.
Currently watching the game’s highlights on the WWOS website.
It has the original on-air bug and everything. All good. (Towards the end the audio issues were there.)
Ice Hockey, the WNBL and Pacific Rugby League on the Channels of Nine today. Not often we see three completely different sports on air within few hours of each other on Nine/9GO. And live too. Not everything can go perfect, especially from an overseas feed, but am hoping it runs smoother next week.
I doubt there was no communication at all. Things like that don’t just happen and not get noticed by anyone.
Again, you are making a huge assumption here that everyone just sat around on their hands and did nothing. Without knowing details, we can’t say for sure what was happening.
They could have, and there probably could have been contingencies in place. I’d be hoping that gets sorted out after today.
What do the other FTA channels do in this situation? This happens on Foxtel all the time but whenever it happens they put a message up and tell you whats going on. Why wouldn’t channel 9 just do that….?
EDIT: lol
sorry I just realised someone asked the same question….
NHL back to delayed coverage outside of AEDT areas.
I mean, if you did it once, might as well do it the rest of the way.
