Nine Sports Broadcasting

The 36ers v Jazz clash is not one of pre-season basketball matches to be shown on ESPN but is originally planned to be available on NBA League Pass and NBL TV only, so well done to the NBL to get it shown free-to-air TV.

NETBALL CONSTELLATION CUP

SUNDAY ON NINE & 9GEM

CAN OUR AUSSIES BEAT THE KIWIS SIX YEARS IN A ROW?

Trans-Tasman rivalry will boil over when the Samsung Australian Diamonds and the New Zealand Silver Ferns face off in the Constellation Cup netball series starting this Sunday, October 7, at 1.00pm AEDST on Nine and 9Gem.

The Diamonds, the world number two team, hold a five-year winning streak in this annual four-game clash.

In the last Quad Series, it all came down to the final game where the Diamonds defeated the Silver Ferns 60-55 at Melbourne Arena.

Nine’s Head of Netball, Keeley Devery, said: “In the recent Quad Series, New Zealand really looked to be finding form that has been lacking in the last few years, so it won’t be one way at all this series.”

The Diamonds’ veteran midcourter, Kim Ravaillion, is out of the Constellation Cup and will be replaced by Kate Moloney and Jamie-Lee Price.

Moloney will play in the first two matches of the series in Brisbane and Townsville and Price will play in the final two matches, in Hamilton and Wellington in New Zealand

Liz Ellis , Sue Gaudion and Cath Cox will front Nine’s commentary team, joined by recently retired Diamond, Laura Geitz , in Brisbane and Townsville.

Clint Stanaway and Aislin Kriukelis will host all the action on Nine.

The NBL schedule shows that during the Australian Open Tennis in January the NBL will be shown on 9Go!, so it seems confirmed it will stay on 9Go!.
The first NBL games on 9Go! are:

Round 1:
Sat. Oct. 13, 2018 Sydney v Adelaide AEDT 2:50pm LOCAL 2:50pm Qudos Bank Arena
Sun. Oct. 14, 2018 Melbourne v New Zealand AEDT 2:50pm LOCAL 2:50pm Melbourne Arena

The article also says Sam will be joining Channel Nine Sydney and do some hosting on Wide World of Sports in NSW.

I wonder if we might eventually see Sam Squires do fill-in Sports presenting on either local or national Nine News bulletins here in Sydney at some point in the future?

Sam Squiers’ first role after moving to Sydney is to contribute to Nine’s coverage of National Basketball League. She, Seb Costello, Warren Tredrea, Rob Canning and Alison Ariotti will be part of this season’s commentary team for both Fox Sports and Nine.

NBL

The National Basketball League 2018/2019 season has tipped off, with a game broadcast live on 9Go! and 9Now every Saturday and Sunday afternoon, and EVERY game from the season available for free viewing on 9Now following their conclusion.

Under the new partnership between Nine and the NBL, Sydney Kings vs Adelaide 36ers will be the first game broadcast on 9Go! this Saturday afternoon at 2.30pm AEDT, featuring the highly-anticipated Kings debut of former NBA champion and number one draft pick Andrew Bogut , one of several NBA superstars making his debut in the NBL this season.

The Hungry Jack’s 2018/2019 season will be the biggest yet for the longest-running team-based sporting league in Australia, building upon the last record-breaking season which featured the largest crowd attendances in NBL history, and a nail-biting finals series win for Melbourne United over Adelaide 36ers.

All games on Nine will be hosted by Nine talent from the state where the game is located, including Seb Costello, Sam Squires, Rob Canning, Alison Ariotti and Warren Tredrea.

With a record number of Australian players overseas competing in the NBA, and participation rates of the sport in Australia currently sitting at over a million registered players, interest in basketball is currently at an all-time high.

Attracting high-calibre players from all around the world, and following a successful pre-season against top-tier NBA clubs, the NBL is now considered the premier basketball league in the world outside of the NBA.

Viewers can tune in to the NBL every Saturday and Sunday live on 9Go!, and live or on demand on 9Now .

Saturday, October 13th

  • Sydney Kings vs Adelaide 36ers – 2.30pm AEDT on 9Go! and 9Now

Sunday, October 14th

  • Melbourne United vs New Zealand Breakers – 2.30pm AEDT on 9Go! and 9Now

That’s good. Pesumably be hosting at the game rather than in a studio??

I’d put money on Nine hosting it from a studio. I’ll be at Qudos Bank Arena tomorrow, will see if a Nine person is there.

I should note, IIRC the NBL produces all the footage, use their own graphics and use Fox commentators. I would not be surprised if people you’d associate with Fox are on the Nine games, like they were for SBS and ABC last year.

The Block encores are more worthy than NBL for the main channel?

Dumb deal by Nine and/or NBL. Won’t grow an audience hidden away on a multichannel.

Just like Seven last Friday night with women’s cricket hidden away on 7mate.

During the day on weekends, sport should only be on the main channel, in HD. There is no reason why it shouldn’t.

Not really? He’s been reporting and presenting on Nine for years now.

I couldn’t see him anywhere from my seat. At least they did send someone - the rest are Fox commentators or employed directly by NBL TV (???).

Also, I looked up Input Media - https://www.inputmedia.tv - they seem to be looking after the technical bits. They also work with Cricket Australia.

reports on the daytime Nine news often and sometimes anchors sport too.

Tom Malone was right. From World Series Cricket to change of AFL broadcast rights in December 2000 to change of tennis broadcast rights a few months ago (the last two ending Seven’s long-time involvement in either sport), Nine was part of the action.

Channel Nine paid a ridiculous amount for the tennis. Seven must be laughing to get big bash and test cricket. Two very different demos to promote their new slate of shows to.
