2GB Starlight Radiothon Smashes Target – Donors Raise More Than $435,000

Radio 2GB and the Starlight Children’s Foundation are thrilled to announce that their annual joint fundraising spectacular, The 2GB Starlight Radiothon, has raised more than $435,000! This outpouring of generosity will deliver the gifts of joy, happiness, and much-needed laughter to seriously ill children and their families this festive season.

The all-day Radiothon held last Friday, November 21, was an electrifying event, spearheaded by beloved broadcasters Ben Fordham, Mark Levy, Michael McLaren, and Clinton Maynard. Over 1200 individuals and businesses contributed to the cause, with donations flying in from a few dollars to a massive $20,000.

Starlight Children’s Foundation CEO, Louise Baxter, said: “We are simply overwhelmed by the incredible generosity we have all experienced and we cannot thank the team at 2GB and all their listeners enough for such a remarkable result.”

“These children are facing unimaginable challenges and this is amplified at Christmas time. This extraordinary result will enable us to brighten the lives of these children and provide the joy that has been missing from their lives. Hats off to all those who volunteered to man the phones from Starlight and 2GB. This is an example of a wonderful partnership and of the community really pulling together.”

Nine Radio Managing Director, and Starlight NSW State Advisory Board Member, Tom Malone, said: “It has been incredibly moving to hear the “Starlight stories” of our listeners and witness their great generosity. Our corporate partners and clients have been magnificent too. A huge thank you to the 2GB team and Starlight team for a wonderful day.”

Donations to The 2GB Starlight Radiothon are still open via the donation website.

The money raised should be matched by NEG.

Meanwhile over in Perth, 6PR presenter Oliver ‘Oly’ Peterson, who presented Perth Live at 1-5pm weekdays, is leaving the station. He will move over to ABC Radio Perth, where he will present drive, taking over from Gary Adshead.

Which they should’ve done in the first place.

AM talk was never necessary for Nine. Build scale with what’s left of FM audience.

Typical big talk from Singo and very little delivery.

Remember the laughable effort to licence Virgin Radio yet ran out of steam at each licence auction?

No one in PR proofreads their output?

What’s wrong wtih that?

Does anyone else find AM reception is actually quite weak on 3AW? Different radios, different places, consistently it is prone to distortion. I am politically not a 3AW person to be clear, mostly hear it tuning through to something else, its alright late at night though

Yes, I cannot receive 3AW (and other AM stations) on my car radio if I am driving into a shopping centre.

That’s just AM though, when others are clear 3AW is still surprisingly weak

shopping centre car parks are usually poison for radio reception, AM or FM. All that concrete, and worse if you’re going underground.

I don’t listen to 3AW much but I’ve never had a problem. Its transmitter is over Werribee way, so depending on your location it might be out of your reach.

Don’t forget DAB. I go into Westpoint and I lose everything.

Interesting mix of fill-ins on 3AW this summer.

Peter ‘Salty’ Psaltis signs off on his final radio show on 4BC

Beloved sports commentator Peter “Salty” Psaltis has officially signed off from his 4BC program Wide World of Sports, marking the end of an era for Brisbane radio.

Psaltis announced last week that he would be stepping away from the station to focus on his growing television commitments.

“I never thought I’d have the honour of hosting my own program” he told listeners, reflecting on his 24 years in radio.

“I’ll have a break now then launch into 2026 with the Summer of Tennis on Channel 9 then the Winter Olympics ahead of the NRL and NRLW season.”
