Nine Radio (Talk)

Tonight was Liz Kefford’s final bulletin at 3AW after 7.5 years at the station, mostly reading Friday night bulletins. She spoke on-air with Denis Walter after reading the 11pm bulletin.

Interesting to hear them mention various things including Liz recently starting her own law firm, and how one of her first jobs was filing beach reports from the bay for AW (prior to her current stint at AW).

Here is the audio. Interesting story about Liz, who went to study law at La Trobe University during her mid-life crisis.

Her new law firm is called Kefford Ferguson.

Earlier in the night, Matt Granland chatted with Jimmy Bartel, who would begin his new role as host of Wide World of Sports next Monday.

I wouldn’t think so. Peter Stubbs is still Grubby as he has been known as since the 3XY days.

Just announced on 3AW Remember When that Philip Brady has stepped down from his role. Andrew McLaren has been co-hosting with Simon for the last three weeks. Very sad and shocked.

Poor Simon Owens in tears on air.

That’s very sad

This is shockingly sudden. No proper farewell for such a long and distinguished career.

Very sad and sudden. His last show was on 12 January (when he last hosted)
I feel things changed towards the end of last year with him not hosting Christmas Eve.

One would hope it’s not due to his health - Peter Ford Did say he needed a time out to sort some things out .
In saying that he’s in his mid 80’s so it was inevitable he would retiree at some point.

I think Simon said all going well Phil will come on the program in the next week or two to say hello to the audience. It would’ve been too upsetting for him to take calls last night.

I wonder what the future holds for AW on Sunday nights.

Assuming Remember When stays and continues with a two-host format, you’d think the job is Andrew McLaren’s.

But if he doesn’t want it, who else could partner with Simon? Kevin Trask? Colette Mann? Gavin Wood?

2GB shows. Because they can.

Then watch Melbourne kick off. They want local feel good memories not whatever god speak or right wing ravel rousing 2GB is doing.

3aw has not updated the remember when page yet

Hopelly Philip Brady is on this Sunday as part of Remember When “Legend”

I agree with you, but this is Nine. If they can save a buck, they will.

Andrew McLaren is the new replacment for Philip Brady on Remember When on 3aw

Simon Owens announced on his show tonight that his program will now air all-year round (not just summer).

This is because 3AW will now be broadcasting football on Thursday nights instead of Saturday nights, so once 3AW Football finishes at 8pm on a Saturday, Simon’s program will be on until midnight.

What about the AFL finals this September? Matches will be played on Saturday nights and 3AW will be obliged to broadcast them rather than Simon Owens’ show.

Ok he might get a few weeks break. The original point still stands. I don’t think it means he works 52 weeks a year.

What about Remember When on Sunday Nights? Simon Owens co hosts that with Andrew McLaren

Phil Brady has passed away early this morning. Tom has announced on Mornings. Was diagnosed with cancer last year.
