Seven back in 2008 was the last major Australian network to win an Olympic Golden Ring award for Best Programme despite no multichannels
Though I do remember they copped some criticism for cutting away to the AFL in the southern markets.
In Sydney and Brisbane, Friday night matches were delayed until the next morning (similar to how Nine would delay such matches until after their Wimbledon coverage between 2002-06), and IIRC Sunday matches werenāt shown at all.
I remember 7 cutting from Olympic coverage to AFL then
Seven also won the award in 2004
is there any news on if Stan will be carrying Milano Cortina 2026? Iām a bit of a wintersport fan (Hockey and Curling especially) and i hate the chop and change coverage on FTA.
its only a year away (6 to 22 Feb) so iād expect news out soon
I donāt see why they wouldnāt?
Alisa Camplin talking about it right now with Tony Jones and Todd Woodbridge at the tennis on the pre show, promoting the Winter Olympics. Freakish timing @Tejas57!
Of course they will. Nine and Stan will do the Olympics as part of the deal until 2032
Thatās assuming that they keep Stan Sport around for that long. No reason to think that as of yet but 7 years is a long time.
Tomorrow will be one year to go before the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina, Italy. It will be the first Olympics in Italy since Torino 2006 and will be Nineās first Winter Olympic coverage since Vancouver 2010.
1 year
Thatās going to be quite some start to 2026ā¦
Australian Open + Married + Winter Olympics
RIP Seven (in 2022 they had Beijing which was a disruptor albeit not as big as Pyeongchang 2018 following Nineās Aus Open which included records with Ash Barty, Special Ks and Nadal wins plus into Married).
And if they get the rights to the Glasgow Commonwealth Gamesā¦ theyāll be unbeatable in 2026.
I think Nine will go for Glasgow rights
2022 7 had the Olympics and Ashes but next year 9 will have a blockbuster 1Q of the year with the summer of tennis into MAFS and the Winter Olympics.
Paralympics rights arenāt awarded yet but Iād expect Nine to broadcast it.
The problem is whether Nine can afford next yearās Winter Paralympic Games and Commonwealth Games in addition to its new broadcast deal with Rugby Australia (expected any day now), plus its current deal with the Summer Olympics, Australian Open tennis, NRL and Melbourne Cup carnival.
The Winter Olympics are part of Nineās Olympic rights deal from 2024-2032 which includes the 2026 Milano-Cortina Winter Games and the 2030 French Alps Winter Games.
Sorry I mean Paralympic Games broadcast rights. Nine doesnāt have the rights to Summer Paralympics in 2028 and 2032, nor Winter Paralympics in 2026 and 2030. Looks like Nine is considering acquisition on a event by event basis.

Good to see Stan having coverage. They should air wintersports this season previously seen on Eurosport with our Winter Olympians participating
