That central west backdrop is Such a mm insulting Sydney interpretation of anything outside sydney.
If you live outside of sydney you must live on a farm and grow crops.
For the market of 240,000 or so about 200,000 of them
Live in cities like orange Bathurst or dubbo and the majority of people have jobs and lives that have nothing to do with farming.
I actually think it looks good, much better than some of the other regional backdrops.

Screenshots from tonight’s Riverina bulletin. Though I don’t see the relevance to Kangaroo relocation in Bathurst during the “Riverina” slot! And the sunrise/set and moonrise/set are still wrong!

They should fill the whole backdrop with a green screen now that they have created the set-like backdrop. Wouldn’t be hard to just roll a panel in behind the desk and then create a third backdrop just for use in the wider shot.

Some odd choices for towns to be listed on the wider region weather graphics.
Not sure why Mt Boyce, Merriwa and Cobar get a mention when they are not in a Nine News regional area or are of particular significance.

Maybe it’s to fill up space? Pretty sure they get the Nine News Canberra in Yass, Goulburn, Selwyn and Cabramurra too, but perhaps they’re thinking that people might commute to those towns for work.
Pretty sure those listed are major BOM sites with either rain radars and the like

I agree. I don’t mind virtual sets as long as the design looks real and the equipment they use doesn’t create a green haze around the edge of the presenter. If they did decide to start using a proper virtual set, they could literally use images of the actual Sydney set!

The weather is only broadcasted into the Central West and Riverina, Canberra shares with the Illawarra IIRC. “Nine/SCA” may just broadcast near the areas on the map, so show the nearest locations that have temperatures and forecasts.
Also this happen during a “live cross”, with high pitch beep/tone…

I hope so! But baby steps… We started with the swoosh background likely because that was the easiest thing to toss together. Rendering the national set would take time, especially if they want to do it right. I would much rather them take their time polishing a realistic virtual set, the part-virtual set is acceptable for the time being.
