Nine News Local

Pretty sure the watermark came on when the pre-recorded Canberra reports started.

This is why having regional bulletins produced from Sydney (rather than a regional area) is a bad thing.

It’s shoddy filler; if they used a national story no one could have an objection, but yes of course the editorial/story selection would be better if each bulletin was compiled in & presented from the local region.

Well, no doubt, watching Nine’s bulletin, you’ll hear about it FIRST (and best) :frowning:

Even the sequencing is stupid; just now (18:35) another Sydney local story about M4 tolls, but they put those Sydney fillers before the little bit on the solar eclipse & more on the Academy Awards…stupid.

Sport OTS

Stories about Sydney trains are relevant to Wollongong and Southern Highlands viewers who regularly commute to Sydney. The problem is doing a news program that covers everything in a large area.

Did they have a wideshot to throw to sport like normal

Yes, there will be a cap of that soon.

The sports throw had issues with the Illawarra opener being shown underneath the background (In Riverina at least)

I for one really like the change to the background compared to what was previously used.
Hopefully Nine will insert some story-based OTS onto the “TV” in the near future.

It’s not perfect, but it gives the impression of a decent sized set behind the presenter, which is nicer.
It certainly looks a lot more “normal” now, especially with the presenters seating location, which was just plain weird beforehand.

The only thing they’ve failed on is the throw to sport, it’s atrocious! Either get rid of the “strip” of local image in the middle and just have a generic 9 News logo or something, or increase the local image to fit the screen properly. The current background for the sport throw is just wrong!!

On a side note, now that the local images are larger and more prominent, I hope they have a dark scene image for each location to use over the Winter.

The new “set” looks somewhat better. However, that fake screen over that window just looks off. But what hurts more is the horrid alignment of the red location tag under the “Nine News” logo. The version that they use in promos would have looked far better.

I think you are being too kind!

It still looks and feels second rate. It’s better today, but it needs massive improvement to match the quality of every other news broadcast on Nine.

Oh yes, of course. I more meant “The only thing they’ve failed on” in terms of today’s improvements.

The problem with this new backdrop is that although it gives the depiction of a set behind the presenter, when they do the wideshot with sport presenter, it’s completely different. So it just looks amateur.
At least use an overlay which mimics the actual set.

Same in Canberra.

Yay, it’s no longer horrible.

They can improve that further by filming a loop of video - rather than just having a static image. It doesn’t need to be a live shot as such, but the closest thing too it will make the news feel more live than it currently does.

Hopefully they mix up the shots frequently and ensure that they update it constantly to reflect the time of day the news is airing.

Too much to ask for a live shot? Maybe a camera on the roof of the local SCA newsroom?

Wagga Wagga’s building would have a nice downtown shot while Watson in Canberra would have a nice skyline of Black Mountain.
