Nine News Local

Yeah not great when they’re emphasing the local thing, but it will be a composite bulletin with national & international news too, so while the interstate vehicle isn’t great, technically it is valid.

Weather. Looks like it will be combined Central West/Riverina one, just like Canberra/Illawarra get the same one:

Would the background picture of the telescope from Parkes be more fitting to meet the central west bulletin? But then I believe an updated Australian map like the one on nbn news would be better for the background of all bulletins?

So on NBN, Gav does (or at least starts) the weather on the news set, so he must do the pre-records before 6. He usually does a (live?) network wide preview about 6.30 and he would then be doing the Newcastle/Central Coast weather live around 6.50. So assuming he is (or can be) doing the 9 news weather on a green screen somewhere other than on the NBN set, surely he can knock out 4 separate weather reports between 6 to 6.25 so they can be a bit more local? I doubt they’re going to get him to do Vic & Qld as well, so it should be feasible. Even just a few more local temps would be good - they zoom into Canberra, but nowhere else. Personally, I like how WIN (Illawarra) now has temps, and a 3 day forecast, for Albion Park, which can be quite different to Wollongong. The rest of WIN’s news is painful to watch though (not least due to the vasoline-vision).

I was afraid you’d say something like that. They really should have called this Southern Cross Nine News, because it’s bringing down the rest of the Nine News brand. I really was expecting things to be bad to begin with, but this is week 3 now and they seem to be happy prodding along at a leisurely pace doing their own thing.

Yep, something generic but nicely designed (ie not a block of washed out white which seems to be the current trend at Nine) would be much better. Not being tied to the green screen would also remove a barrier to having a proper set.

So it’s likes they are too lazy to add Lithgow and Oberon on the weather map which Prime and WIN always show. I’ll stick with Prime news.

What happened to the old Sydney 9 news set? That set could have easily been used for the regional news bulletins, with a generic Australian map like the NBN News replacing the old Sydney camera of the old Sydney skyline.

I guess TCN just don’t have the room to spare.

Pity. The way they are apparently doing the green screen (with the green on the LCD/plasma) they possibly still could have done on the old metro set. However the way it is now, the ‘local’ backdrops are just a token gesture anyway, and hindering rather than helping the bulletin.

A montage of the bulletin is on its way.

I think that Central West titlecard just might be the best of the regional Nine News titlecards I’ve seen so far, because it features imagery of more than just one location.

Surely they have space to squeeze the little old metro set in the corner of the HUGE studio 22? Doesn’t even need to be the whole set, they could get rid of the long wall behind the weather plasma and just have the bits around the back of the desk.

I’m okay with them using the little box studio on Thursdays when The Footy Show is in the big studio (and that would only be ~30 weeks a year anyway wouldn’t it?).

Wait til the Sport Reader the Victorian Bulletins in Announced.

Well I probably should have been clearer, of course there is room for the set. But because the regional bulletins and Nine News Sydney are going out live, I would assume that they would cancel each other out - noise wise. Similar to what others have been saying about the upcoming Victorian bulletins

Could they have room in Canberra for a additional news set beside the existing one currently used for the existing southern cross news read out from Canberra? Would any redevelopment plans for the Canberra site have any bearing? Maybe any additionai set in Canberra would be used for the regional bulletins in the SNSW / ACT market?

The Sydney news doesn’t use studio 22, it has its own studio. Studio 22 is empty during the evenings.

Ah yeah forgot about that studio. Yeah I’m curious now as to why perhaps they don’t use that studio
