Nine News Local

Yes! Samantha Heathwood and Paul Taylor are fantastic together, this is a brilliant acquisition by Nine getting them both back together again.

I was disappointed when WIN split them up years ago, but it’s going to be great to see them together again.

Is the first bulletin the Cairns one?
Any info on which bulletin will have their local windows presented live?

I would safely say, yes. The bulletins have been launched in the order they were listed on the SCA website, so QLD order will be: Cairns, Townsville, Mackay, Rockhampton, Wide Bay, Toowoomba, and Sunshine Coast.

BTW, for SNSW viewers. did Vanessa cross to “network coverage” on the London Attack story?

The SNSW news is only broadcast on weekdays.

Yeah, I agree that the Queensland bulletins will most likely be launched in the order they were listed in the press releases as we saw with the Southern NSW/ACT and Victorian editions. So going by that and the earlier post from Read_It_First, this will probably be the timeline for the rollout of Nine News Regional Queensland:

Cairns - July 10
Townsville - July 17
Mackay - July 24
Rockhampton - July 31
Wide Bay - August 7
Toowoomba - August 14
Sunshine Coast - August 21

Of course that schedule could be subject to change if any further delays arise, but I do think Nine would be aiming to get all Regional Queensland bulletins on-air before the start of September.

its not an hour dedicated its only 8 minutes at most or 5 mins of local news , thats whats happening with the 9 local news here in victoria , its 8 or 5 mins of local news and the most is state news and australia news and maybe 5 or 6 mins of local sport

Article mentions that it isn’t a full hour of just local stuff.

… receive a dedicated one hour 6pm Nine News bulletin which will compile local stories, dedicated local sport and weather reports, together with national and international coverage.

It will certainly be interesting to see Nine and Seven battle it out in Queensland. Taking into account viewer loyalty, it will be interesting to see if people in QLD prefer Nine’s statewide bulletin with local inserts, Seven’s 30 min local bulletins attached to a shortened Brisbane bulletin, or WIN’s 30 min local bulletins that follows Ten’s full Brisbane bulletin.

BTW, how are the ratings going for SNSW and Victoria against Prime7 Local/National News and Ten Eyewitness News + WIN News.

The Rockhampton/Central QLD market is going to be an interesting one.

WIN with Paul Taylor and Samantha Heathwood was always very popular in that region, so it’ll be interesting to see if viewers jump over to 9 News there.

7 News is strong in other markets, so I doubt they’ll see too many people swap over honestly… it’ll take years to build up a good audience against 7 in my opinion.

Although, I know there are people who are sick of Rob Brough, so it’ll be interesting to see if these people jump over.

He just really doesn’t present well anymore. I remember watching him a decade ago when on holidays up the Sunny Coast, and he was fine back then. But ever since I’ve noticed his pronunciation and speaking flow is stilted and awkward, he tends to mumble, and he looks like he generally doesn’t give a shit anymore.

Doesn’t Prime 7 and WIN (and in Canberra’s case, ABC) beat the sh*t out of Nine’s bulletins?

[/quote]It comes down to why people are watching 7 over win. It is because they like 7 as a brand, or simply because it’s better than WIN. If it’s the second option, it won’t be as hard to lure viewers across, particularly with a different format that some will prefer.

I agree.
He seems to stumble/mumble through most stories, and just generally isn’t that pleasant to watch most of the time honestly.

I honestly don’t think Paul Taylor is much better so I’m glad to see he’ll only be doing Sports on the Nine bulletins. He used to be ok as a reader when he first started but the last few times I saw him reading on WIN his delivery just didn’t flow smoothly. There was lots of pauses and reminded of Rob Brough’s delivery but not as bad.

In Regional Queensland I’d probably expect Seven to continue to remain a dominant #1, because it’s probably one of those regional stations which has dominated for so long regardless of how poor the presenters have become or how dated the set now looks!

However the battle between Nine and WIN could be very interesting. Samantha Heathwood & Paul Taylor are a major coup for Nine, presenters who are familiar in the market and are likely to get WIN News viewers switching over.

I think WIN outrates Nine in the Illawarra/South Coast (likely due to Geoff Phillips’ presence on WIN News, who is a very popular senior presenter in WIN’s home region as far as I’m aware), but I’m not so sure about the other areas of Southern NSW/ACT.

While they probably won’t, I think Nine should seriously consider swapping the roles of Danielle Post and Vanessa O’Hanlon around! At the very least, I think Nine should consider getting Danielle Post to fill in on Nine News Southern NSW/ACT over Summer or whenever Vanessa is absent.
