I wonder if this means Natalia will do the Late News every night given she will already be in the studio for the weather.
I’m with you, decades of doing it successfully speaks for itself.
I would’ve paired Thommo with TVo (given the latter has been at STW longer than Monika) but I highly doubt they would go down that path given Tracy is on maternity leave and would want to spend more time with her family. Monika would then do weekends and Natalia would replace her on the 4:00pm bulletin.
Anyway given the changes at TVW I would like to think the onus is on STW to continue to improve their ratings as I think they could also make some on-air changes if they don’t.
We’ve seen in Adelaide where Seven News continues to dominate in the ratings with its current on-air lineup which has been in place since 2023, while Nine continues to struggle even with its main presenter Brenton Ragless having been in his position since 2014 (when he was paired with Kate Collins, who left last year).
The thing about maternity leave is that you do then come back to work. I am sure if they dangled 6pm in front of her she could be tempted back sooner.
Just to clarify, I think Tracy would most likely resume her current role of presenting on weekends when she returns from maternity leave, but IMO promoting her to weeknights and pairing her with Thommo would stave off any attempt by rival stations, particularly Seven, to lure her to their network.
The reason I went with Monika is because she is familiar to TVW viewers who might be looking for an alternative soon and she has been on Perth TV much longer than Tracy. This is STW’s moment to boast about experience.
Nothing against TVo. She is fantastic and is well suited for 6:00pm, but if they want to capitalise on this moment I think Monika would be the choice to do that.
Former 9News Queensland sports presenter Jonathan Uptin has revealed his next chapter after leaving television – and it turns out he’s quitting TV for love.
After quietly departing Nine following the non-renewal of his contract, Uptin has confirmed he has no plans to return to media, instead retraining as a marriage celebrant and swapping nightly rundowns for people’s biggest, happiest moments.
Edward Godfrey has made the move to Melbourne and reporting on Nine News Melbourne tonight.

Surprised Sydney didn’t pick him up.
Connor McGoverne and his big deep voice working in Nine’s Canberra bureau. Saw him last week and tonight.
Real loss for Adelaide
Just in case anyone missed it in the Sky News thread… Jonathan Kearsley is leaving 9News after more than 15 years, to take up the role of Washington Correspondent with Sky.
