Wiki says he presented his last bulletin on a Friday though? Why would he have worked 5 days on his last week?
I’m really struggling to remember this. Can anyone else remember this?

Pretty sure Ian Henderson was 4 days toward the end of his run as well on ABC Melbourne
He did towards the end.
Four day week is common for news anchors in the UK. Who wants to work five days a week anyway?
What he supposedly decided is irrelevant. As Tony revealed on radio, ”Nine have decided it wasn’t me anyway.” And what a right choice they made!
Yeah he definitely read four days. I think the reading 5 days on his last week may have been to give the network a clean end of week break and to promote it better with radio/Sunrise interviews etc.
Doubt she would tbh, seems to be happy doing MCing and stuff.
and working 4 hours a day 4 days a week is also very relatable to the common people watching at home.
When they’re in their mid-70’s, I think it’s more than reasonable and I’d hope people just appreciate that he’s actually still got the stamina to work in such a high profile position.
With the $$$$ he gets paid!
They work more then 4 hours.
Hitch I know most nights leaves Nine around 9/10pm with a early afternoon start. It’s not as simple as rocking up and reading an autocue.
Add all of his radio commitments that he also does… as well as charity events. He’s not a lazy person at all.
He loves news and loves his job. & expect him to go on for years to come now he’s dropping back a day.
You want someone who absolutely phoned in their news reading duties, Quarters on 10. In as late as 1 or 2pm and out the door at 6.02pm.
I also know of newsreaders who drop in, read, and dash.
Hitch is definitely an exception and totally deserves one day less of work!
So he basically just came in after everyone did the prep, read the updates and bulletin and left straight afterwards?
I mean that’s just slack for a professional newsreader.
I know Jen Keyte wandered into Seven mid arvo most days. Though that was toward the end of her tenure there so I don’t blame her
Understandable.
Sometimes it’s a case of the newsreader simply having no editorial discretion as to the bulletin. I once worked with a presenter who’d wander around the building for hours at a time because there literally wasn’t anything they could do. You can only read over your scripts so many times.
And he was moved back to sport and replaced.
He wouldn’t be able to get away with that nowadays with 10’s current news format.
never said he’s lazy, but he’s certainly not putting in 8 or 9 hour days, not at his age.
You’d be very surprised my friend. He is.
If not every day in the newsroom, he’s on FM stations, 3AW Weekley in two different time slots as a guest, charity events, MC work at local balls and debs. That’s just to name a few of the things he is doing weekly.
The man doesn’t stop
