Makes me think that with the shorter 30 minute bulletin and less local stories/content, makes more sense for Brenton to just do the whole thing from Paris. I noticed less NWS9 stories on my Social’s last night.
Maybe that’s why Seven News is so far winning in Adelaide - has more local content than Nine atm.
No sign of Andrew from Paris tonight in QLD.
Maybe he fell into the River Seine and it wasn’t to his liking? (or the river didn’t like him)
Wednesday July 31
Kate Collins returned to the Adelaide bulletin tonight, with Brenton Ragless presenting from Paris wearing a blazer in the heat - apparently his shirt looked more like a swimsuit than a shirt.
Moral at Nine Adelaide isn’t good; well so says News.Ltd.
I don’t have access to the story, so only going off the headline; will search for more.
Two experienced TV camera operators and a couple of rising young reporters have been let go by Channel 9 Adelaide as part of the network’s latest cost-cutting drive.
Nine’s longtime camera boss Mark Himsworth and Josh Wilsher, who had been with the station for almost 15 years, have been made redundant.
Popular Nine news journalist Michaela Komarek and sports reporter Emma Henderson have also been let go.
It’s understood the departing members of the newsroom were told they had been made redundant over the past week, and have been given the option of staying until the end of the month.
So are Nine just not going to address this?
Is Jono coming back? Or are we to assume Dom and Brontë are doing sport now?
Weird radio silence here.
You can’t be serious, she was one of the better ones! Henderson sadly had to go, was pretty much useless on Sport but covered general news quite well, hopefully they and the Camo’s find work elsewhere.
Yet again they show no love for Adelaide, and they wonder why 7 News beating 9 Adelaide.
I remember Nine News started to close the gap in Adelaide earlier this decade, but it seems like Seven’s lead has ballooned out again, especially after their local afternoon news was reinstated following much backlash.
Nine might have had some hope of reducing the margin after Jane Doyle retired from the Seven newsdesk in 2022, but it wouldn’t be.
Speaking of… Anyone know what’s happened to Tom Rehn? Was becoming one of WWOS’ stars under Tom Malone at the Aus Open from 2019, but then disappeared around 2022 after new boss Brent Williams took charge, replacing with 9NRL’s Peter Psaltis. Did his workload increase at Nine Adelaide? Must’ve been peeved no Olympics secondment, but not surprising if no longer on the network’s tennis coverage or something (Psaltis also in Paris).
That’s probably why
He’s been appearing on ‘Today’ as their Adelaide Reporter
Around 2022, he became the weeknight sport presenter of 9News Adelaide - also hosts an early morning sports show on FiveAA on weekdays as well IIRC.
From my understanding, it was his choice to step back. Family was more important to him.
Shit, okay, cheers guys Fair enough, busy guy! Shame for national viewers though especially major sport telecasts, a great caller, could’ve gone far.
Also does HelloSA (lifestyle program) at 5:30 on Sundays. Which he started at the same time he took a step back from national duties.
The replacement to SA with Cosi
7 also recently sacked a handful of local staff though too.
No offence to Michaela but The Tiser puts ‘popular’ in front of anybody at 7 or 9. Like what’s their metric on that?
I’m guessing camera staff across all three networks + ABC are being reduced as the new pool sharing arrangement means that every network isn’t sending their own cameras to press conferences - means that networks can cut camera people while still having enough to maintain the current number of reports produced.
yup, that’s what I predicted. People were foolish to think it was going to mean more stories would be covered.
