There is much better career opportunities working for a metro network rather than WIN.
There is nothing really higher in WIN News than what those people were at before departing unfortunately. Nine has many opportunities to move into metro markets and other programs.
If I had the option to pick either WIN or Nine Regional to work as a journalist, I would pick Nine. Much less hurdles to jump to get up the chain. Also it’s kinda hard to get presenters (particularly experienced ones) keen on moving to Wollongong. It’s kinda the same situation if Nine Darwin went down a local production path again which required shifting a presenter to the NT.
I’d be surprised if any Canberrans expected local coverage from commercial TV these days.
WIN used to do a news special on election night.
ABC to the rescue. Wonder how their ratings totted up.
You really need to go all in to make it worth the overtime. Updates won’t add a single viewer to your normal programming. A news special from Parliament House might have competed well against ABC, but would need to be well resourced.
It was a complete failure with no ROI as they did 20-30 minute segments separated with 15-20 minutes of a movie. ABC got most of the audience that night. They also went without ads for 4 hours.
I hope next time around they do the broadcast properly into the NT.
I was referring to Nine having no ads for the whole night - not a bad thing but not good business wise considering how expensive election broadcasts are.
Despite this, Nine would never do a big broadcast for an affiliate unless SCA approached them with an agreement to cover the costs.
Nine News Local looks like it will be presented out of the new North Sydney headquarters tonight!
Looks like it will be coming out of the new ACA studio.
