Nine News Darwin

Keeping Darwin is a useful tool in terms of delivering a national news network for Nine digitally IMO.

ABC and Sky News both have newsrooms and studios up there as-well.

Nine have a talent only studio working in Surfers Paradise and Newcastle(at least for now). There is no reason why Nine could not have a TOS studio and newsroom in Darwin.

Nobody swallows the ‘ it costs too much’ line anymore - IP based studio gear has come down in cost and contribution link charges are very affordable nowadays. Bonded cellular kit even allows you to use business grade IP services to connect a studio.

Hell, look at the setup Trevor Long uses for EFTM and his crosses on Today and the big setup and cost of a studio claim is straight away put to rest. It can be done.

Appears they’ve listened to this thread today - woo!

Well apart from the fact that the studio space already exists in Surfers Paradise and Newcastle with other presenters already working there who can read the updates for Darwin allowing the only reporter 9 has in Darwin to file actual stories.

Worth mentioning that it came out of NBN again tonight

It’s likely to stay that way until there’s a change of ownership for NBN

I can’t see much reason why they couldn’t add an extra staffer in Darwin to present the updates…

I can…money, money, money. Must be funny, in the NEC world.

There’s no reason why this couldn’t remain once WIN takes over, either - it’s not like there isn’t already a relationship for Darwin, WIN already represents Nine in that market for sales.

That backdrop dates back to the Covid days.

Nine Darwin sold to WIN.
I wonder what this means for NND? Noodle updates?

If they even do continue noodle updates, I’d say most likely they get moved to either Wollongong or possibly even Hobart.

Didn’t Hobart studios get shutdown, it’s all Wollongong now?

Apparently it’s now used to do updates for SA, yet they don’t use it for the actual Tasmania bulletin

Great logic. Produce your bulletin for that market in another state, but produce another state’s updates in that sstate.

No wonder Seven wipes the floor with WIN’s arse in Tasmania.

that doesn’t make any sense at all?

Well this is WIN we are talking about
