9News content to run across oOh!media's network of digital billboards reaching millions of Australians

Daily news headlines from 9News will appear on the country’s most prominent roadside digital sites owned by oOh!media, in a significant move that will bolster brand awareness at a time when trusted news is more important than ever.

In a multi-year partnership with oOh!media that will extend the content distribution of 9News straight into the daily commute of Australians, Nine’s television newsrooms will provide more than 50 state-based news updates each day, seven days a week.

The headlines will appear across 74 large format digital Out of Home billboards on some of the country’s most heavily trafficked roads in five capital cities – Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth – as well as regional Australia including the NSW Northern Rivers.

Nine’s Director of News & Current Affairs, Fiona Dear, said: “We have been actively evolving our news product to ensure we are reaching our audience where they are in their day-to-day lives. Whether that be on their daily commute, at work, or at home, we want our news content to be easy to consume and access. This partnership with oOh! is another piece to our puzzle, ensuring that we are broadening our distribution even further, and giving millions of Australians daily updates to keep them informed.”

Cathy O’Connor, CEO of oOh!media, said: “The partnership with 9News is yet another step forward in our strategy to enhance the Out of Home experience by delivering high-quality, contextually relevant content at scale. This initiative further reinforces oOh!’s commitment to making public spaces better by providing timely, attention-grabbing content that extends the value exchange for both audiences and our advertising partners.”

Nine’s Director of Growth & Retention, Helena O’Dowd, said: “As one of Australia’s leading and most trusted news providers, 9News is excited to extend our reach even further through this partnership. By leveraging oOh!’s extensive large format digital network, we can deliver breaking news and local updates to audiences on the move, ensuring more Australians stay informed no matter where they are. This collaboration reinforces our commitment to providing timely, accurate, and engaging news content in new and innovative ways.”

So it’s bad to take your eyes off the road to fiddle with your car touchscreen, but it’s safe to gaze at headlines on billboards? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

They’ve done this before circa 2020. I used to be part of the team that would send local GFX for our 6pm bulletins to oOh! to put on the billboards. Was cool seeing them pop up sometimes on my commutes or at lunch.

You’ll be blinded by the all-white billboard given how bright some of those things are.

Billboards near the roads are fine as long as there are no attractive members of your preferred sex shown on them!

Where we started vs where we are now: Gold Coast edition. Same set 8 years apart.

How did anybody pick up a paint swatch for “Generic Office Beige” and think it was passable?

Looks like an aquarium now.

Due to Good Friday NRL no Gold Coast News today.

Would have been nigh on impossible to find 30 minutes of newsworthy local items on a major public holiday like today anyway.

Are other cities simulcasting Sydney re Pope or is it still local news bulletins?

Everything is local.

Yes, still NBN News here in Northern NSW too.

Only issue I have with the coverage is that they advertised stories finance related with Effy that they didn’t show even if they advertise a story it should be shown even if it means they go over time . I would have spent a max of about 10 minutes in the first block on this story and moved on to other news. We are in the middle of a election and it gives politicians excuses to do things that they should not while the media is focused (obsessed) on this. As they know they won’t get any push back and it should stop.

You could notice they were changing the running order quite a bit with Peter looking at his notes quite a bit more than usual and the graphics mistake that had not been updated properly. But Nine did a great job overall.

@jason120au It’s a major breaking story, of course things have to change it’s the way news is.

Given your previous objections to events spilling over and delaying the start of the news, this is an interesting position to take. I am sure that for those who were interested in the story, they will get it out at some stage and in some fashion. Otherwise, I don’t think many people would argue against the decision to push it out in favour of breaking news with global significance.

Yeah, how dare the Pope die in the middle of the election! /s
Seriously, they will cover both just fine. It’s not as if they are pulling all resources off the election trail to cover the story. My guess is it will be an important story tomorrow and then they will scale back, save for the major moments of the interregnum, until the election of the new Pope.

They can do both - especially when the Pope story would be covered by an overseas correspondent, possibly a reporter or two back home, and supplemented by pictures pulled from wires

My point is that too much of the bulletin covered the one story probably well over half of the bulletin which was unnecessary. If they advertise a particular story then cover the story or tell the audience why not just cut it out entirely. If they have to go over time into ACA so be it. Politicians know that the main stream media become unnecessarily obsessed with the one story when news like this happens, which allows politicians and businesses to do stuff that they should not while the focus is elsewhere. Yes cover it but not for half a bulletin and not for all of ACA pushing aside other important stories. This is a general comment not just for this story. It happens far too frequent.
