It’s been a bleak year (or two) for most people. This is a good news story. It’s resonating with people who haven’t had a lot of good news in recent times.
How many people around Australia punched the air with joy or smiled when they read/heard/saw she’d been found safe and well? I even had a lump in my throat and I haven’t really been following the story.

Overkill? Maybe - but commercial news media feeds the masses what they know the masses want. Rolling coverage across the afternoon is a bit unnecessary, but I can see the value in news specials tonight to recap the day.

Absolutely. I woke up at 5.30am and read the news on twitter. Burst into tears and immediately switched on sunrise. Have had it on in the background all day.

9News Special: Melbourne Awards 2021

Saturday 13 November at 2pm

Our heroes of 2021

The City of Melbourne’s 2021 Melbourne Awards will be announced exclusively this Saturday at 2.00pm on Channel 9 and 9Now.

Hosted by newsreader Peter Hitchener, the 9News Special: Melbourne Awards 2021 will celebrate the inspirational people who have gone above and beyond to make our city better in the extremely challenging year of 2021.

This year there are 29 exceptional finalists across eight categories – Arts and Events, Aboriginal Melbourne – Kommargee Ketherba, Community, Hospitality, Sustainability, Urban Design, plus two new categories, Knowledge and Innovation and LGBTIQ+.

9News presenter Peter Hitchener is thrilled to be part of such an important event that celebrates Melbourne and its outstanding people.

“In a year of COVID chaos, it is fantastic that we can share the stories of those Melburnians who are dedicated to making our city a better place, and to celebrate their achievements,” he said.

Lord Mayor Sally Capp said: “We are thrilled to recognise and celebrate the inspirational people who are making invaluable contributions to our city. It’s the people that make our city the wonderful place it is, and the Melbourne Awards finalists are a testament to our passionate and innovative community.”

This year’s honours will also feature the prestigious Melburnian of the Year Award, whose previous recipients include leading medical researcher Professor Doug Hilton AO, and radiation oncologist and tobacco-free lobbyist, Dr Bronwyn King AO.

For more information on each of the finalists, visit the City of Melbourne website.

Not sure of the value of having finance reports with share prices during Love Island  Not the right target demo.

I imagine it’s done for ALL shows on at that time so they are aired at a consistent time each night.

Probably no different to airing a sports update during programming not aimed at males.

In Brisbane, we have a nightly countdown clock to when the borders open. 37 days, 7 hours, 29 minutes, 10 seconds….

Probably also as some kind of warning to anti-vaxxers.
